About the Role This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the company's financial reporting and analysis functions. The Senior Financial Accountant will handle both GAAP and Statutory (STAT) reporting, ensuring accurate and timely financial data across multiple entities. This position offers visibility across departments – including Actuarial, Reinsurance, and Tax – and the chance to make an impact through process improvements and automation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and review GAAP and STAT financial statements, schedules, and supporting documentation
Drive the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes from start to finish
Analyze account activity, post journal entries, and reconcile complex accounts
Prepare and file quarterly and annual statutory reports to the NAIC and state insurance departments
Complete consolidated financial reporting templates for the parent company
Partner cross-functionally with IT, Tax, and Reinsurance to resolve accounting or data issues
Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements and automation opportunities
Support the Assistant Controller through cross-training and backup coverage
Contribute to ad-hoc analysis, projects, and leadership reporting initiatives
Qualifications Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Accounting
5+ years of accounting and financial reporting experience
Insurance industry experience required
Strong understanding of both GAAP and Statutory Accounting Principles
Technical & Soft Skills
Advanced Excel skills; experience with Workday or similar ledger systems a plus
Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail
Organized and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Proactive, collaborative, and confident communicator
