About the Role CommUnityCare (CUC) of Austin, Texas is seeking a visionary Chief Health Officer (CHO) to lead our rapidly growing Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) system. The CHO will serve as the primary architect of the ambulatory clinical enterprise, designing new infrastructure, teams, and integrated systems to achieve sustainable, equitable, patient‑centered care.

Responsibilities

Strategic direction and performance of all health‑related services across the CUC system.

Integration of clinical, operational, and financial priorities into a cohesive strategy.

Leadership of medical services, population health, quality and patient safety, and clinical informatics.

Verification of regulatory compliance and promotion of quality improvement and patient safety.

Collaboration with system leaders in a matrixed environment to support cross‑functional initiatives.

Building and sustaining a high‑performing clinical leadership team.

Advancement of value‑based care strategies and population health initiatives.

Goals & Objectives (First 12–24 Months)

Establish credibility and build foundational relationships with the board, executive team, providers, and community partners.

Design and build a scalable clinical infrastructure aligned with strategic priorities.

Define and implement a unified clinical vision and strategic plan.

Drive measurable improvements in clinical outcomes, patient experience, and health disparities.

Accelerate the transition to value‑based care models.

Maintain continuous readiness for FQHC regulatory and accreditation surveys.

Qualifications Education & Certification

Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) – required.

Board certification in a relevant medical specialty – required.

Eligibility for medical licensure in Texas – required.

Master’s degree (MPH, MHA, MBA, etc.) – strongly preferred.

Experience & Knowledge

Minimum 10 years of progressive clinical experience, with at least 5 years in senior leadership in a complex healthcare setting.

Deep experience in FQHCs, academic health centers, safety‑net systems, or public health systems preferred.

Success leading large‑scale medical group practices, especially in primary care services.

Strong financial and operational acumen with a record of integrated strategy implementation.

Expertise in quality improvement, patient safety, and regulatory compliance in ambulatory settings.

Commitment to serving mission‑driven, community‑based populations.
