Responsibilities and Expectations Integrated Power Services is seeking a self‑motivated Protection & Control Technician that is willing to be hands on with our field services group.
Physical wiring
Verification of all non‑factory wiring
Commissioning of relays
Setup and configuration of all network (LAN/WAN) equipment
Verification of functionality of all equipment
Responsible for job from start to finish
Preplanning outages
Working with local P&C Oversight/Engineering/Operations to determine and mitigate reduced or inadequate protection situations
Planning and scheduling SCADA checkout
Other job duties are as follows in the electrical maintenance and testing of equipment from the 480 volt level to the 345 kV level:
Problem solving
Assisting field service teams during maintenance, shut‑downs, startups and testing projects
Report writing
Testing complex relays, including but not limited to distance, directional power, reverse power, negative sequence, differential, motor and generator protection. Relay examples include:
SEL‑2411, SEL‑421/411L or 311L
SEL‑487E/351S/587/551, SEL‑487B/551C, SEL‑487V/GE F35
SEL‑351 S/451 S/351 R
SEL‑287/351S, SEL‑587/351S
GE L90, GE‑B30/B90, GE‑T35/F35/C30
DCB I DTT I POTT (TC‑lOBITCF‑lOBIUPLC)
Requires working knowledge of the following software:
SEL 5010
AcSELerator Quickset, AcSELerator Architect
GE URPC (Enervista)
Cooper SMP Manager
SG Config
Doble Protection Suite
Hyper Terminal or Terra Term
Any other software that might be necessary to complete all commissioning related activities
Qualifications and Competencies
Associate of Science in Electrical Technologies preferred, or 2-5 years experience; or equivalent education and experience
Good verbal and written communication skills
Computer skills, including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and AutoCAD
Must have a valid driver's license, and currently have and be able to maintain a good driving record
Must be available for periodic to continuous domestic travel
Must have at least 3 years of experience operating a vehicle with a valid, unrestricted driver’s license.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift, push, pull, carry items up to 50 lbs. in weight
Must be able to pass a fit for duty physical exam
Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, and bend for prolonged periods of time
Ability to perform manual labor for up to 12 or more hours per day
Acute hearing and strong field of vision
Ability to work in demanding physical and inclement weather conditions
