HVAC Supervisor Plumbing, Mechanical, and Project Management – Regis University

Location: Northwest Denver Campus, Thornton Campus Job Summary: Reporting to the Director of Operations, the HVAC Supervisor leads and supports a team of technicians responsible for the daily operations, preventive maintenance, repairs, and installations of the University's HVAC systems, boilers, chillers, air systems, and building automation controls. This role ensures systems run efficiently with minimal downtime by making necessary adjustments and overseeing the timely completion and documentation of both routine and emergency work. A key focus of this position is the effective and efficient use of Utility Division staff and resources. The HVAC Supervisor also manages multiple plumbing and HVAC capital improvement and maintenance projects each year and contributes to planning for future system needs. This role directly supports the mission of Regis University by ensuring the safe, reliable, and energy-efficient operation of critical campus infrastructure. By maintaining and enhancing HVAC, plumbing, and energy management systems, it helps create a comfortable, sustainable environment that supports learning, teaching, and community engagement. Major Duties and Responsibilities: Facilities Maintenance and Technical Staff Supervision:

Manages four full-time staff and multiple service contractors responsible for plumbing, mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and life safety systems maintenance. Schedules, oversees, and performs routine and non-routine maintenance and repairs. Trains staff in inspection, calibration, monitoring, diagnosis, and repair of central plant boilers, chillers, cooling towers, and related HVAC systems. Oversees energy management and building automation system (BAS) upgrades to ensure systems operate within designed parameters. Preventative Maintenance, Diagnostics, and System Repairs: Plans, performs, and documents routine and non-routine maintenance, repairs, and installations in heating and cooling plants, including rooftop air supply and exhaust units. Maintains air, steam, and hot water heating systems using manual and Direct Digital Control (DDC) diagnostics. Troubleshoots and repairs air-handling equipment, ensuring timely completion of preventive maintenance. Tracks work orders and administrative protocols, ensuring staff compliance and accurate documentation for HVAC, boiler, chiller, and mechanical systems. Project Management for Mechanical Systems and Contractor Oversight: Provides full-cycle project management for HVAC, mechanical, and plumbing system installations, from design input and bidding through on-site execution. Oversees contractor work and ensures completion of all related documentation, including financials, inventory, change orders, schedules, and warranties. Applies a project management approach to annual and semi-annual preventative maintenance projects, whether performed in-house or by contractors. Compliance, Training, and Safety Management: Ensures staff performance and training meet compliance requirements with Federal, State, and Local regulations, including NFPA, NEC, OSHA, and City of Denver and State of Colorado mandates. Maintains overall responsibility for staff safety and adherence to Utility Division policies, procedures, and regulatory standards. Facilities Maintenance Operations and Emergency Response: Responds to emergency and reactive maintenance calls using communication systems. Assigns and inspects technician and contractor work to ensure quality and completion. Reviews project plans and bids, manages procurement, and oversees capital projects and repairs from inception to completion. Performs other duties as needed to support campus facilities' operation and energy efficiency goals. Energy Management Systems Maintenance and Support: Assists with routine and non-routine maintenance, repairs, and installations of university-wide Direct Digital Control (DDC) energy management systems. Makes necessary system adjustments and coordinates with control contractors to ensure proper installation and commissioning. Maintains electrical control system knowledge through required certification training. It is an essential requirement of this position to have and maintain a valid Colorado Driver's License as well as maintain insurability through the University funded insurance carrier by maintaining a satisfactory driving record. Any changes in the incumbent's driving record at any time during his or her employment must be reported immediately to his or her supervisor. Must show proof of Hepatitis B inoculations or receive inoculations provided by Regis. Work Environment:

This role extends beyond the typical office environment. Work is performed year-round and may require weekend and evening hours for event support and on-call emergency response. This position requires a daily on-campus presence. Education: High School graduate or GED equivalent. Accredited HVAC trade school certificate, and/or Associate's degree in related trade or field are preferred. Licenses or Certifications: City of Denver Journeyman HVAC license or sufficient related work experience. Valid Colorado driver's license and a driving record that meets the eligibility requirements of the university's insurance carrier. EPA certification preferred. Experience: 7 years' experience in HVAC, boilers, chillers, and mechanical trades. 3 years of combined experience in the roles of foreman, crew lead-worker, or project manager. Progressive supervisory experience is preferred. Electrical work and safety experience, knowledge, and skills are needed to solve related HVAC problems. Special Instructions to Applicants:
