Employment Status Employment Status Full Time Department Department School of Arts & Sciences Job Summary Assist the Director of Bands with the organization, direction, and management of the Alcorn State University Band program regarding Athletic and Academic Ensembles. Perform duties as a faculty member of the Fine Arts Department as designated by the Chair to University level teaching credentials and skills. Knowledge Skills and Abilities Experience and a record of success in all areas College Marching Band and Concert Ensembles A record of successful secondary school teaching, recruitment, and retention Evidence of commitment to working collegially and collaboratively while demonstrating advanced skills in excellent leadership and communication skills. Essential Job Functions
Demonstrate ability to perform on principal instrument (woodwind and brass) Demonstrate ability to teach instrumental pedagogy/methods courses Demonstrate ability to teach Music Technology Demonstrate ability to arrange for Marching Band Demonstrate ability to create Patterns of Motion Drill Design (Moffit) Demonstrate knowledge of Casavant Drill Design (A.R. Casavant) Demonstrate ability to operate PY Ware Drill Design Software Demonstrate ability to operate Finale, or Sibelius Music Software Demonstrate ability to Conduct large and small ensembles Demonstrate ability to model large and small music ensembles rehearsal techniques Ability to teach music technology: ProTools, Ableton Live, Applied Woodwind instruments and other class assignments as they relate to the needs of Music Program and the Fine Arts Department Participate in faculty led lectures, recitals, workshops, and recruitment Other related duties as assigned Qualifications
Master’s degree in Music Education, Music Performance or related music field from a NASM accredited degree program; Doctorate in Music Conducting, Music Technology or Music Education Preferred. Licensing and Certifications Teaching license preferred but not required.
