Job Objective The drama instructor will teach drama/theatre courses, produce performances, develop curriculum and assessments, and establish collaborative partnerships within the community.
Essential Job Duties
Teach drama/theatre courses.
Effectively design and implement curriculum, assessment rubrics, and lesson plans for each course taught.
Provide a record and summary of activities to the Kroc Fine Arts Director regularly.
Teach students basic techniques for creating dramatic productions, including lighting, set design, costumes, or other applicable skills.
Develop and implement ongoing collaborative partnerships for drama/theatre programming with schools and organizations.
Actively participate in recruitment and outreach efforts set forth by the Fine Arts Director/Manager.
Organize necessary placement auditions.
Attend assigned staff meetings.
Willing to teach additional classes and workshops as needed.
Minimum Qualifications Education
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre Arts, Drama, Musical Theatre, or equivalent qualified performance experience.
Experience
Two years required, five years preferred of teaching experience.
Provide a record of theatre performance experience.
Evidence of experience in curriculum development.
Competencies And Skills
Ability to work with children, parents, and staff in a leadership capacity.
Demonstrated initiative and self‑starter attitude.
Performance experience in the relevant teaching content area.
Starts class on time; sets up and resets the room as required.
Working knowledge of music literature.
Philosophy of education and child development consistent with The Salvation Army.
Positive attitude and flexibility.
Willingness to promote the mission of The Salvation Army.
Must be Safe from Harm certified within 30 days of hire.
Supervisory Responsibility None
Physical Requirements
Satisfactory speaking, hearing, and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity.
Lifting, pulling, and pushing of materials up to 25 pounds.
Requires bending, squatting, and walking.
Standing for extended periods of time.
Travel None
Working Conditions This job is performed at times in an office environment at normal room temperature; noise level is usually low. For other duties such as outdoor special events and community center activities, the employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment at these events is usually moderate to loud.
