Our client, a rapidly growing biotech startup developing next-generation sample preparation and genomic analysis instrumentation is seeking a
Sr. Electrical Engineer
to support the design, development, and integration of next-generation genomic instrumentation. This role will lead board-level electronic design, embedded system integration, prototyping, and hands‑on bring‑up within a collaborative R&D environment. This is a high‑impact role with visibility across engineering, product, and scientific teams.
Location:
Pleasanton, CA (East Bay)
Employment Type:
Full-Time (Direct Hire)
Salary Range:
$155k–$190k+ (DOE), plus equity
Hours:
Standard day schedule (M–F, onsite)
Relocation support:
Considered for strong candidates within CA
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and validate
mixed‑signal PCB assemblies
for biotech instrumentation.
Lead
schematic capture, component selection, and layout review
(Altium preferred).
Develop and integrate embedded systems using
microcontrollers (STM32/TI) .
Implement and debug
I2C, SPI, UART, USB
and related communication interfaces.
Perform
hands‑on bring‑up, prototyping, and electrical characterization .
Utilize oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other test equipment for troubleshooting.
Collaborate closely with
firmware, software, mechanical, and assay teams
to drive system integration.
Support transition from R&D to
manufacturing and scalable production .
Qualifications
MSc or PhD in Electrical Engineering (BS considered with strong experience).
3+ years
of professional experience in
device, instrumentation, semiconductor, biomedical, or electromechanical systems .
Proven experience in
PCBA hardware development
and board-level debugging.
Strong background in
analog + digital circuit design and analysis .
Embedded experience writing or debugging
low‑level drivers in C .
Hands‑on lab experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, DMMs.
Preferred Attributes
Experience developing
instrumentation used in life sciences or diagnostics .
Comfortable working
hands‑on and iteratively
in a startup/R&D lab environment.
Ability to assess system-level behavior, root cause failures, and drive solutions.
Self‑driven, collaborative, and proactive problem solver.
