About Us We are a rapidly growing biotech organization based in Pleasanton, CA, focused on developing next-generation sample preparation tools that are revolutionizing genomic applications. Our technology relies on precise control of complex physical and chemical processes. We are at a critical inflection point in bringing our product to market and are seeking an analytically rigorous Senior Electrical Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team.

If you are energized by the challenge of applying first-principles physics and mathematics to solve highly complex, real-world hardware problems—and are a proven self-starter who excels in a collaborative environment, we invite you to help build the future of genomics.

Role and Responsibilities As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will be the core contributor responsible for the design, analysis, and validation of the complex embedded electronics that power our advanced biotech instrumentation. This role is not just about schematic capture; it requires a deep, fundamental understanding of how electrical design impacts the system's overall performance, precision, and physical transduction (e.g., thermal, fluidic, optical control).

The ideal candidate is a highly analytical, proactive, and self-motivated engineer with a strong track record of designing, documenting, and successfully bringing commercial, high-reliability PCBAs and electrical assemblies to market in regulated or high-precision industries.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the full-cycle hardware development of embedded electrical systems for complex electro-mechanical devices, from concept and component selection through production.

Apply advanced circuit analysis, electromagnetic principles, and signal integrity techniques to design robust analog and digital control circuits for sensors, actuators (motors, valves), and user interfaces.

Develop precise control solutions utilizing microcontrollers (e.g., TI/STM32 families) that interface complex I/O, including low-noise analog sensors, user display and controls, precise motor control, and electro-pneumatic systems with high-resolution pressure feedback.

Perform comprehensive troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of electrical and system-level failures, utilizing strong analytical models and advanced lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers) to communicate findings.

Collaborate closely with Firmware, Software, and Mechanical Engineers to define system architecture, refine technical specifications, and ensure design integration success.

Contribute to low-level firmware development in C for prototyping and writing efficient hardware drivers (I2C, SPI, UART).

Education

M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related quantitative field.

Experience & Technical Skills

3+ years of professional experience in PCBA Hardware Development and product delivery, ideally in biotech, biomedical, semiconductor, or high-reliability instrumentation fields.

Proficiency in first-principles circuit analysis (transients, noise, power budgeting) and design of mixed-signal (Analog & Digital) circuits.

Expertise utilizing electrical CAD packages (e.g., Altium) for complex schematic capture, layout guidance, and documentation.

Hands‑on experience with prototyping, assembly, and rigorous hardware testing using standard lab equipment.

Solid experience with serial communication protocols (RS-232, I2C, SPI, USB) and their practical application in robust embedded systems.

Experience with Firmware development in C designing low-level drivers and utilizing microcontrollers (e.g., TI/STM32).

Knowledge, Skills, and Analytical Rigor

Exceptional mathematical and physics-based problem-solving skills: The ability to model and analyze complex physical interactions (e.g., thermal stability, fluidic sensing, high-speed signal noise) and translate these insights into concrete electrical specifications.

A proven self-starter with a strong track record of taking initiative, owning technical problems, and successfully driving projects to completion in a cross-functional environment.

System-level thinker capable of comprehending complex, multidisciplinary data (from biology, mechanics, and electronics) and using it to define elegant solutions.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document complex designs and present technical findings clearly.

What We Offer

Direct contribution to breakthrough technology that sits at the intersection of engineering and biological science.

Opportunity to join an exciting and fast-growing genomics startup early on in their growth journey.

Competitive Salary and an attractive Equity Participation Program.

Flexible Paid Time Off (PTO) and Comprehensive Benefits (Medical, Dental & Vision).
