As part of the Controls Modeling team, you are the System Controls Engineer that ensures optimal performance of Tesla’s Powerwall, Solar, Charging, V2X and home ecosystem. This role involves collaboration with multiple teams, including engineering, firmware, integration, validation, pilot testing, and field performance. It also requires the ability to apply engineering fundamentals to the design and implementation of system control algorithms that are at the core of Tesla’s success. What You’ll Do
Model and design system‑level control algorithms to manage power and energy flow of Tesla’s Powerwall systems
Manage algorithms for power converters, loads, vehicle charging, vehicle grid and load interaction (V2X) in compliance with applicable grid standards
Develop control‑oriented system models and use them to refine control strategies and drive their implementation
Write system controls requirements for existing and next generations of residential energy products
Prepare technical reports and summaries for stakeholders
Work cross‑functionally with product, firmware, system integration, design, and reliability teams
What You’ll Bring
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent, or equivalent experience
2+ years of experience with control system design
Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink, Python, and C
Knowledge in linear systems analysis, estimation algorithm design, and controls theory
Demonstrated ability to ground‑up design, analyze, and implement control systems in real‑world applications
Preferred: Experience with optimization and optimal control methods and solvers
Preferred: Familiar with compliance and standards for interconnection of distributed energy resources such as IEEE 1547
Exceptional analytical problem‑solving skills
Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross‑functionally and execute on open‑ended projects in a fast‑paced, resource‑constrained environment

Expected Compensation $112,000 - $234,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
