About Multiply Labs Multiply Labs is a cutting-edge startup based in San Francisco, California, supported by top‑tier tech and life science investors such as Casdin Capital, Lux Capital, and Y Combinator. Our mission is to build the best robots in the world and use them to make the most advanced life‑saving therapies accessible to all. We are revolutionizing the manufacturing of cell therapies by developing advanced robotic systems designed to automate and scale the production of these life‑saving treatments. Our robots empower biopharma companies to produce cell therapies at scale without significantly changing their existing processes, reducing regulatory barriers and risks. While traditional approaches are time‑consuming and lead to extremely high costs for patients (typically $1M+ per patient), using robotics can make these transformative treatments more accessible and affordable to patients in need. About This Role We are seeking a highly motivated scientist who will contribute significantly to the advancement and validation of our automated processes. This role primarily involves hands‑on laboratory work, where you will directly contribute to improving the efficiency, accuracy, and reliability of our robotic systems. This will provide you with a deep, intimate understanding of the intricacies of our technology. Beyond the lab, you will also serve as a key Multiply Labs representative during system deployments at customer sites. This will involve working directly with clients to ensure seamless integration and optimal performance of our robotic solutions, offering an exciting opportunity to apply your expertise in real‑world settings and to contribute directly to customer success.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Experiment Planning and Execution: Assist in experiment design and execution, perform statistical analysis, and present data.

Cluster Deployment Support: Act as the onsite biology team representative during the deployment of robotic systems at both domestic and international customer sites, providing assistance and training to customer personnel on automated processes.

Cross‑functional Collaboration: Work with other teams to improve and implement automated processes.

Laboratory Maintenance: Assist with routine laboratory tasks, such as maintaining cell cultures, equipment, inventory, and documentation.

Minimum Qualifications

Degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology, biomedical engineering).

Bachelor’s degree with 4+ years of relevant experience; or Masters’ degree with 2+ years of relevant experience.

Proficiency in an experimental biology laboratory, including:

Hands‑on experience performing experiments.

Data analysis and interpretation of results.

Ability to plan and execute experiments independently.

Expertise in common laboratory techniques (e.g., cell culture, media preparation).

Familiarity with standard safety procedures and sterile techniques (e.g., proper PPE, aseptic handling).

Effective troubleshooting of experimental issues and technical failures.

Proficiency in aseptic techniques: efficient work within a Biological Safety Cabinet (BSC) and routine monitoring to prevent cross‑contamination.

Proficiency in human blood processing:

Handling and manipulating whole blood or apheresis‑collected components (e.g., PBMCs, stem cells).

Post‑collection processing for downstream cell expansion protocols (e.g., isolation, immediate culture initiation, or cryopreservation).

T‑cell isolation from peripheral blood or apheresis products using positive/negative selection and activation/expansion protocols.

Proficiency using Google Workspace for data tracking and formal technical reports.

Proficiency using GraphPad Prism to perform advanced statistical tests (e.g., ANOVA) and generate publication‑quality figures.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills for conveying complex scientific information to both scientific and non‑scientific audiences.

Flexibility and adaptability in face of changing priorities and schedules.

Strong organizational, time‑management, and data‑recording skills.

Ability to prioritize tasks, multi‑task, and coordinate with others and meet deadlines.

Ability to travel to international and domestic customer sites as needed.

Ability to stand for long periods and move comfortably in confined robotic systems (e.g., 2.5 m × 1 m).

Preferred Qualifications

Hands‑on experience in a GxP (GLP/GMP/GCP) laboratory environment, following SOPs and meticulous record‑keeping; familiarity with FDA and EMA guidelines.

Proficiency in operating, programming, and troubleshooting laboratory automation equipment (e.g., liquid handlers) and closed automated cell therapy manufacturing platforms (e.g., CliniMACS, Rotea).

Physical & Working Conditions

Lift up to 25 lb and 5 lb overhead.

Stand or sit for long periods while performing lab tasks, operating specialized equipment, using a microscope, and analyzing data.

Reach, stoop, crouch, or kneel while performing lab tasks; may need to crouch or kneel inside a robotic cluster.

Excellent manual dexterity and fine motor skills for precise pipetting and cell culture manipulation.

Strict adherence to safety protocols (e.g., Biosafety Level 2).

Potential exposure to hazardous materials, biological agents, and cryogenic materials.

Use of personal protective equipment (lab coats, safety glasses, gloves) for extended periods.

Standard schedule with occasional evening or weekend work to complete time‑sensitive experiments.

Some roles may require on‑call availability or work during non‑standard business hours.

Travel

Up to 25 % domestic and international travel.
