Cooley is seeking a Competitive Intelligence Specialist to join the Data Delivery team within the Innovation Department.
Position Summary As a leading technology law firm, Cooley is determined to become a leader in the digital practice of law. The Competitive Intelligence (“CI”) team is a global team. Under the management of the Senior Competitive Intelligence Manager, the Competitive Intelligence Specialist will be a critical member of the Competitive Intelligence team, supporting analysts and the manager by executing high-volume, data-intensive tasks and enabling deeper strategic analysis.
Position Responsibilities
Draft monthly competitor roundups across different practice areas and sectors, (e.g., AI, Life Sciences, Litigation, M&A, etc)
Maintain and update lists of industry events and conferences in Asia, Europe, and the US
Assist in the production of weekly financing updates covering different sectors and geographic regions
Assist in the production of news updates covering different sectors, topics, companies, investors and geographic regions
Maintain LinkedIn Sales Navigator Account/Lead lists for monitoring people moves
Conduct deep dives into contact and connection research using LinkedIn, Introhive, and CRM platforms
Add or revise contact data in CRM based on research findings
Summarize internal email threads into concise CRM account or opportunity tasks
Assist in adding CI research (company profiles or bios) to CRM to enrich data quality
Assist in creating company or investor target lists, including executive and board member research
Assist in flagging potential company targets and individual outreach opportunities based on current awareness and monitoring responsibilities
Draft attendee bios for marketing events using data from CRM, LinkedIn and other appropriate external sources
Compile organizations and conferences relevant to specific industries or practice areas
Use relevant and appropriate tools (SQL, Power Query, approved AI tools) to review, cleanse, and prepare raw data for analysis
Take an active role in building tools and processes to automate repetitive CI tasks
Take part in Innovation projects implementing products and services where CI is a component or CI skills are relevant
Take part in Innovation projects implementing products and services where business/matter data is component or data skills are relevant
Create and prepare presentation materials and make effective presentations when required
Evaluate and select CI systems and tools and keep up to date in developments and best practices in the CI field
Represent Innovation in the local office, at firm wide events
Participate in special projects, as needed
All other duties as assigned or required
Skills and Experience Required
After orientation at Cooley LLP, exhibit proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, iManage, DTE, Adobe Acrobat and other firm applications
Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, Power Query)
Available to work overtime, as required
2+ years’ direct applicable experience (e.g. research and/or data analysis experience). Senior candidates must have 3+ years directly applicable experience, along with the proven ability to operate at an elevated level
Preferred
Bachelor or Master of Library/Information Science Degree
Proficiency with using SQL
Experience working within the legal or professional services sector
Familiarity with CRM platforms
Familiarity with LinkedIn and AI scraping tools
Familiarity with legal, private company, tech, life sciences, and/or venture capital ecosystems
Competencies
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Strong communication skills and professional/business writing ability (including analysis and synthesis)
Ability to manage multiple ad hoc and recurring tasks under tight deadlines
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple competing tasks and demands, provide high levels of customer service and maintain a professional demeanor at all times
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate and communicate with business professionals at all levels
The ability to work well and thrive in a collaborative team environment
Excellent customer services skills
Compensation and Benefits Cooley offers a competitive compensation and excellent benefits package and is committed to fair and equitable employment practices. EOE.
The expected hourly pay range for this position with a work schedule of 40 hours per week is $30.00 - $43.50 ($62,400.00 - $90,480.00 annually). Please note that final offer amount will be dependent on geographic location, applicable experience and skillset of the candidate. Senior level candidates may be considered for this position and would be eligible for a higher salary range based on experience.
