Purpose Divergent is seeking experienced and motivated leaders to support the next generation of world‑leading vehicle design and advanced manufacturing. This role will oversee an engineering team of 5+ held accountable to delivering complete products. You’ll be expected to grow this team over time to support the industry vertical your team is accountable for.
Role
Set team priorities, track projects, and mentor engineers to achieve critical company milestones.
Develop and institutionalize a culture of accountability, extreme ownership, collaboration, innovation, and technical excellence.
Perform cross‑functional technical review to ensure product capabilities meet requirements.
Identify and communicate capability gaps, risks, and dependencies between application and platform teams, and coordinate mitigation plans.
Grow the capabilities of the team through training, mentorship, documentation, and hiring.
Appropriate resource allocation, measuring capacity of the team against capacity.
Accountable for generating and measuring functional departmental goals, KPIs and responsibilities.
Basic Qualifications
Ability to lawfully access information and technology that is subject to US export controls.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent technical discipline.
Minimum 8 years of experience in a relevant technical discipline.
Minimum 3 years of experience in technical leadership.
Demonstrated ability to lead a team of mechanical engineers working cross‑functionally to deliver successful products.
Proven track record of leading complex projects from concept through production, focusing on high‑performance materials and high‑reliability applications.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to synthesize complex inputs to simple terms and find alignment across multifunctional stakeholders.
Strong systems‑thinking mindset—comfortable navigating ambiguity and driving structured clarity across technology and program boundaries.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated excellence developing products and systems for aerospace and defense applications.
Experience with additive manufacturing, automation systems, or materials development.
Demonstrated ability to thrive in a high‑tech, fast‑paced startup environment with a passion for disrupting traditional manufacturing paradigms.
Work Environment
Requires frequent standing, walking, and interaction across production and R&D work areas.
Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching. May involve crouching, climbing, confined spaces, or work at heights.
May occasionally require extended or weekend hours to meet production deadlines.
Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.
Compensation For this role, pay is based on the level of the job. At Divergent, the pay range is as follows:
M06 / Manager: $157,190 – $216,150
M07 / Senior Manager: $182,380 – $250,745
