Launch Vehicle Product Assurance Quality Engineer
to join our Air Force and Space Division in
El Segundo, CA . You will play a key role in supporting the United States Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC) Launch Systems Enterprise Directorate’s National Security Space Launch (NSSL) program by providing technical assurance from design through launch. This is a unique opportunity to collaborate across government and industry to ensure mission success for national security space initiatives.
This position supports end-to-end technical oversight of launch vehicle systems, with a focus on quality engineering, flight hardware pedigree, and process assurance. You will engage with launch providers, government stakeholders, and contractors to support manufacturing audits, data reviews, and certification activities.
Responsibilities
You will help ensure launch vehicle hardware meets stringent national security requirements by:
Leading and supporting pedigree reviews of launch vehicle flight hardware, including design, manufacturing, testing, and data analysis artifacts
Reviewing and evaluating quality assurance requirements within launch service contracts and acquisition processes
Producing detailed assessments of launch providers’ manufacturing and quality practices, including audits, trend analyses, and supplier certification reviews
Delivering technical input to documents such as Process Guides, Test Plans, Engineering Review Boards (ChERBs), and CDRL evaluations
Coordinating supplier site visits, mentoring quality team members, and tracking emerging issues in the launch enterprise
Supporting scheduling and tracking of launch vehicle quality audits and collaborating with providers, contractors, and government representatives
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor of Science (BS) in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related STEM field
9+ years of experience in aerospace, mechanical, or related STEM fields, including 2+ years in aerospace quality or manufacturing engineering
Ability to analyze technical designs, processes, and documentation to assess quality compliance
Experience collaborating across multidisciplinary teams (DoD, USAF, NASA, NRO, industry)
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and collaboration tools such as SharePoint
Preferred Qualifications
Master of Science (MS) in Engineering or STEM discipline
Demonstrated experience with complex manufacturing, quality systems, and lean practices
Background in quality certification, producibility, or process validation
Experience supporting Delta, Atlas, Falcon, or similar launch vehicle programs
Availability of prior work examples and personal references
Clearance Requirements
Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
Occasionally moves about the office to access files and equipment
Frequently communicates with team members and customers, including presentations. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
