The Subject Matter Expert (SME) is responsible for the development and validation of electric vehicle power electronics and electrified vehicle systems/devices for passenger cars and trucks. The candidate will develop power electronic devices DVP & R, define and carry out all required development/validation testing to ensure achievement of all functional objectives, and assure compliance to program goals and participate in supplier assessments and post-test inspection reviews, including detailed failure analysis and will work closely with the chosen suppliers and manufacturing entities to ensure designs are robust to customer requirements, meet exact function, and are manufactured without defect, will test finished product for quality purposes and recommends changes to product specifications as necessary. The candidate will also define and carry out all required bench development/validation testing to ensure achievement of all functional objectives and assure compliance to program goals per Global requirements and will develop common best practices globally for all the Power Electronics Charging System component commodities.

The candidate will also mentor and train Development Engineers in Power Electronics hardware design topology, analyze projects to ensure projects achieve best practice performance, drive for strategies that meet regulatory requirements while working with the quality department to define hardware limits and/or component test cycle creation for ED/DV/PV testing, will keep up-to-date with best practices across the industry and work to implement these practices across global Stellantis applications, will recommend Power Electronics strategies and technologies to meet future global requirements, Lead technical problem solving to find technical solutions to systemic challenges during DVP & R development, work to improve methods and processes to make component development more efficient through the use of virtual hardware development, work with the quality department to identify top issues and develop countermeasures urgently and will provide expert technical support for production-launch engineers and consultations for technical leadership for the Center of Excellence teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Technical Responsibility:

Contribute to the Global Technical Area (GTA) strategy and lead in the capability growth of the engineering team

Support and develop Technical Area (TA) core competencies

Support and contribute to knowledge base of internal and external best practices

Lead benchmarking studies and contribute to the benchmark knowledgebase

Propose and lead advanced development topics within the GTA

Propose continuous improvement opportunities to level up team skills, qualifications, tools and processes

Lead design proposals with set based engineering principles

Lead designs with 6 Sigma design principles

Lead complex problem solving with cross functional teams

Project Planning, Target Achievement, Monitoring & Reporting:

Employ technical expertise to lead the engineering development of one or more projects

Lead and support the project team(s) engineering in achieving project objectives, performance and cost requirements, and timing milestones

Lead external support, services and resources supporting the project engineering development

Responsible for work development packages assigned to third parties

Confirm FRD requirements and project performance targets and assure the targets are achievable

Confirm project cost and timing targets and assure the targets are achievable

Support the Chief Engineer (CE) and contribute to the project resource planning, budget development, and status reporting

Responsible to monitor the SW releases of each of the project development programs on time per the FROP (Feature Roll up Plan)

Responsible for meeting the serial production tact, First Time Quality (FTQ) and ergo targets

Responsible for meeting market region regulations, FMVSS, ECE, HV Charging Global Standards, etc.

Confirm the Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R) comprehends all project targets and is complete

Confirm the project Design Failure Mode and Effects and Analysis (DFMEA) comprehends all product risks and product usage cases

Manage project TA according to the agreed head count, budget, and outside service or support plan

Project Related Interface:

Support and Promote Project and Operations Collaboration

Lead global development touchpoint and milestone meetings

Collaborate with Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) to assure production feasibility

Collaborate with all cross functions to make complex decisions

Collaborate with the Global Technical Area Head (GTAH) to assure concurrent best practice sharing

Collaborate with the other project GTAs

Employee Related Tasks:

Ensure cooperation with all areas within the engineering and request the required frame conditions

Ensure cooperation with project management

Ensure cooperation with all other groups within the area

Secure knowledge of development tools within the group

Ensure training of employees according to the required skills

Escalate problems at the earliest time with the appropriate team members

Special Knowledge / Skills:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)

Computer knowledge and skills in CAD and CAE simulation preferred

Six Sigma certification preferred

Professional Communication skills (written and verbal)

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related degree field

Minimum of 8 years of experience in electronics and circuit design and/or development

DVP&R and DFMEA creation & execution experience

Understanding of Electrical Engineering standards/protocols, and of power electronics/devices

Knowledge in Global charging system standard requirements

Strong analytical, problem solving skills and thorough understanding of Power Electronics

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Highly motivated and self-starter

Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications:

Master of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent

Power electronics / electrical models, simulation experience, and FEA

Power electronics specifications expertise

Global charging system standard protocols expertise

DVP&R and DFMEA expertise

Design and release experience

EOL plant process experience
