Overview
We are seeking a senior investment professional focused on control and structured private equity investments in U.S. lower middle‑market companies that generally have $5 million to $50 million in annual EBITDA. Executives must have a strong track record of originating, underwriting, and managing private equity investments as well as managing and developing junior talent.
Investment experience in business services, industrials, healthcare, and technology is desirable. Star Mountain does not invest in energy, commodities, or real estate.
Executive must also have experience completing successful buy and build strategies and a focus on active portfolio management.
Star Mountain is leveraging broader deal flow, resources, and expertise of its nationwide investment platform to further expand its private equity business. Executives will also have the opportunity to gain selective exposure to other investment sectors of the firm, including secondaries, where appropriate.
Position Description
Deal Origination and Execution: Lead sourcing, evaluation, and execution of private equity investments. Structure creative capital solutions to meet the needs of management teams and investors.
Investment Strategy and Diligence: Drive investment thesis development, oversee detailed due diligence, and lead term sheet negotiation and documentation processes.
Investment Committee Leadership: Take a leading role in Investment Committee discussions, presenting clear, data‑driven recommendations and insights to senior leadership and external stakeholders.
Portfolio Oversight and Value Creation: Actively manage portfolio companies through board participation, strategic planning, operational improvements, and preparation for exit events.
Relationship Management: Cultivate and expand relationships with management teams, investment banks, deal intermediaries, and institutional investors to enhance deal flow and fundraising efforts.
Firm Leadership and: Contribute meaningfully to Star Mountain’s broader strategic initiatives, including firm leadership, fundraising, business development, and platform growth.
Team Development: Mentor and manage junior and mid‑level team members, fostering a high‑performance, collaborative culture focused on excellence and accountability.
Qualifications
12+ years of relevant recent experience in private equity. Prior experience in investment banking, consulting, and operating businesses is a plus.
Proven track record sourcing, executing, and managing middle‑market investments in companies with $5–50 million of EBITDA.
Strong portfolio management background, including board participation, operational oversight, and exit optimization.
Excellent strategic, analytical, and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to engage effectively with investors and management teams.
Proven leadership in building and developing teams; recognized as a mentor and culture carrier.
Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for contributing to the growth of a leading private investment firm.
Willingness to travel nationwide as needed for deal sourcing, portfolio management, and investor engagement.

Location: Must be willing to work out of our Tampa or NYC office.
Compensation The exact salary will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, and performance during the selection process. Employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus and other economics. Total compensation may vary by role, location, department, and individual performance.
