Unit Director, Acute Rehabilitation Services (Nurse Manager)
Join UCSF Health as Unit Director and provide daily 24‑hour planning, organization, direction, and control of department operations while participating in decision‑making for departmental functions. The Director reports to the Senior Director for Patient Care Services and offers clinical leadership and nursing practice oversight for acute rehabilitation units at UCSF Health Stanyan & Hyde Medical Centers.
Job Summary The Director ensures quality patient care across two hospitals, serves as a nursing practice role model, manages staff and resources, designs and oversees nursing and administrative operations, coordinates staffing, finances, and material resources, and develops and implements new programs and policies.
Responsibilities
Lead daily 24‑hour planning, organization, direction, and control of department operations.
Participate in decision‑making related to departmental functions.
Provide clinical leadership and nursing practice oversight for acute rehabilitation units.
Ensure patient care quality across units.
Manage staff, personnel, fiscal, and material resources.
Design and oversee nursing and administrative operations for large or multiple patient‑care areas.
Coordinate staffing, fiscal, and material resources.
Develop and implement new programs and policies.
Report to the senior director and communicate with other units.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required
Registered Nurse in the State of California
Must have 5 years of nursing leadership experience & 3–5 years of ARU experience (IRF)
Basic Life Support – AHA
CRRN certification, inpatient Rehabilitation Facility (IRF) within 6 months
Strong hospital management experience, with progressive and in-depth expertise in patient care services
Knowledge of hospital / clinic operations in a medical center setting; knowledge of appropriate professional standards for the department and team
Strong knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing and compliance environments
Strong knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology and patient care workflows and processes
Ability to create and maintain a goal‑oriented climate of teamwork, and consistent achievement of objectives
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster and promote an environment for effective communication and collaborative decision‑making across multiple units and disciplines
Preferred Qualifications
Certification in relevant area preferred
Master's Degree in Nursing or relevant area preferred
Must have knowledge of regulatory requirements for CARF/IRF accreditation
License / Certification
Registered Nurse in the State of California
Location San Francisco, CA – St. Francis Campus
Compensation Annual salary range: $253,900 – $269,400 (subject to UC policy).
