Position Title: Assistant Professor of Dance (2 Positions)

Department: Drama and Dance
Description The Department of Drama and Dance at Hofstra University invites applications for two (2) full‑time, tenure‑track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor of Dance to begin work on September 1, 2026. The successful candidates will join our nationally recognized Dance Program and will contribute to our mission of training the next generation of dynamic and diverse dance artists, educators and multidisciplinary scholars. Responsibilities will include teaching a range of courses for undergraduates, which could include modern technique, ballet and pointe classes, jazz dance technique (including the history and development of jazz dance as well as current trends), and the ability to teach in other areas such as choreography, somatics, contemporary partnering, dance and film, dance and technology, etc. Faculty members will also mentor students, direct dance concerts, curate repertory, choreograph for performances, and lead recruitment efforts both on and off campus. We seek highly engaged dance professionals who will enrich our collaborative, diverse, and interdisciplinary community and who will be committed to continuing their creative practice to bring innovative industry knowledge into the classroom. Ongoing professional activity is expected to advance the University’s reputation and represent the quality of our faculty and programs on national and global platforms.
Qualifications
MFA or PhD in Dance or equivalent in professional experience
Minimum three years university‑level teaching experience, with experience in student mentorship
Preferred Qualifications
Significant record of work in the professional field

Salary Range: $85,000–$90,000
Additional Information Hofstra University provides the above salary as a good faith estimate of the starting pay range which considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience and education.
