Description The Vice President of Academic Affairs (VPAA) serves as FDTC's Chief Academic Officer, reporting directly to the President. The VPAA is responsible for educational policy and academic programs, including program review and improvement, accreditation and self‑evaluation, assessment of student and program learning, student success, academic personnel decisions, budget development, enrollment strategies, fiscal accountability, program and curriculum development, and teaching and learning improvement.
The VPAA supports the FDTC mission, strategic plan, and goals, creates consensus, fosters productive teams, and leads key college strategic interests. The VPAA serves as an ambassador, promotes excellence in service and student success, responds to emerging issues and community needs, and sustains and advances faculty and programs that uphold the college's reputation.
General Responsibilities The VPAA provides collaborative leadership with the Executive Leadership Team, ensures institutional goals are met, and has authority to develop all academic activities for the college.
Primary Functions
Serve as chief academic officer for FDTC, responsible for program development and assessment, teaching and learning assessment, faculty appointment, professional development, and evaluation.
Review and recommend new or revised academic policies.
Lead data‑informed strategies to improve access, admissions, enrollment, and retention.
Administer the strategic plan related to academic affairs.
Be visible and present for faculty, department chairs, and deans.
Provide leadership and oversight for all Academic Affairs, sustaining a culture that empowers staff.
Support FDTC’s mission through effective structure, policies, and services.
Promote technology and innovative pedagogies.
Guide staff in planning and sustaining programs aligned with strategic goals.
Support recruitment, professional development, evaluation, promotion, and retention of quality staff.
Sustain collaborative relationships across divisions and constituencies.
Supervise academic affairs staff, faculty, and programs.
Recommend personnel decisions.
Represent the college to government representatives.
Participate in chief academic officer organizations.
Communicate professionally with students, staff, faculty, and the public.
Collaborate with Marketing on brochures and catalogs.
Supervise Deans, Executive Directors, Directors, and Managers.
Perform other duties as assigned by the President.

Typical Qualifications Minimum Requirements Master’s degree plus seven (7) years of progressively responsible related work experience.
Preferred Requirements Master’s, Ph.D., or Ed.D. in Curriculum Development and Leadership, Higher Education, or Adult Community College Administration, plus seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience. Experience as faculty member, department head, division chair, or accreditation team.
Supplemental Information Anticipated Work Hours Monday–Friday 8:00 am–5:30 pm, with possible overnight travel.
