Professional Development Specialist (PT) – Nursing Education and Professional Development Professional Development Specialist will work in collaboration with the Director of Professional Development to support the development, implementation, and evaluation of nursing education and professional development programs. The role supports nursing practice and professional development through knowledge and skill acquisition, competency validation, and lifelong learning, in alignment with legal scope of practice, national and specialty nursing standards, CNMC Policies and Procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

Professional Practice

Support/participate in Shared Leadership.

Contribute to CNMC’s Magnet Journey.

Ensure nursing practice is evidence-based.

Participate in performance improvement activities (division or unit level).

Participate in community activities.

Education

Collaborate with department manager/director and staff to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs.

Design, implement and maintain systems to document clinical competency and participation.

Manage continuing education programs.

Develop plans and present programs based on educational needs assessments.

Use knowledge of teaching and learning theories to develop curriculum design, testing and evaluation.

Facilitator

Facilitate competency assessment for nursing staff related to orientation, in-service education, and continuing education.

Apply adult learning principles to professional development activities.

Serve as a role model for other educators and facilitate team building.

Serve as faculty/coordinator for centralized nursing orientation and other in-service programs.

Leadership

Collaborate with Director/Manager for Professional Development and other leaders to promote AHA guidelines.

Participate in organizational committees.

Design, coordinate, and evaluate interventions supporting CNMC’s mission and strategic plan.

Serve as consultant in instructional design and evaluation.

Collaborate with hospital committees and shared nursing leadership council to review and revise nursing practice guidelines and policies.

Change Agent

Collaborate with organizational team to develop tools to meet competency assessment standards.

Implement processes to monitor organizational competency assessment.

Collaborate with nursing leadership to develop intervention plans based on needs assessment, mission, and strategic plan.

Collaborate with the health care community to strengthen professional nursing practice at CNMC.

Research

Engage research/PI process as PI, collaborator or evaluator.

Evaluate outcomes of educational endeavors and track learner outcomes.

Ensure review and revision of clinical practice guidelines and policies in keeping with recent research.

Assess, measure and report performance using appropriate methodologies.

Qualifications

Minimum Education : M.S. Nursing or Masters of Education or related field, with baccalaureate degree in nursing (Required).

Minimum Work Experience : 5 years related and progressive acute care and management experience (Required).

Required Skills/Knowledge : Successfully complete hospital and nursing orientation. Provide services sensitive to diversity. Demonstrate skills for CPR instruction and other clinical programs.

Required Licenses and Certifications : Registered Nurse in District of Columbia (Required). Licensure/certification in specialty as applicable (Required).

Location Primary Location: District of Columbia – Washington. Work Location: CN Hospital (Main Campus).

Pay range: $89,752.00/yr - $149,593.60/yr.
