At Houston Methodist, the Vice President (VP) Facilities Management Services (FMS) position is responsible for the strategic direction, operational oversight, and leadership for facilities management functions across the Houston Methodist system. The role ensures the safety, reliability, and operational excellence of the physical environment while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. The VP FMS serves as a senior advisor for facility issues, provides leadership and direction to subordinate management, and organizes the activities required to maintain all physical structures, mechanical/electrical systems, central plants, and utilities in an operative and safe working condition. The position drives operational initiatives, develops and implements policies, and assists the SVP in meeting or exceeding strategic financial and operational objectives. It reports directly to Executive leadership and collaborates with senior leadership to achieve Houston Methodist's mission, vision, values, and commitment to excellence.

Key responsibilities include:

Providing direction to the management team to enable the effective and efficient completion of objectives and give timely guidance and feedback.

Identifying opportunities and building strategic relationships across departments to achieve business goals.

Developing efficient organizational structures within the scope of assignment and maintaining a competent and engaged employee group.

Supporting the Senior Vice President of Construction, Facilities Design and Real Estate in alignment with construction, design, and real‑estate initiatives.

Service essential functions:

Developing and implementing strategic and operational high‑level projects and processes, setting clear goals and priorities for the management team.

Driving HM service standards and activities to improve system score for patient/customer satisfaction.

Overseeing day‑to‑day operations of facilities management across all Houston Methodist inpatient hospital campus locations, MOBs, and corporate buildings.

Driving operational efficiencies, cost savings, and system‑wide standardization of facilities practices and procedures.

Quality/Safety essential functions:

Reviewing service levels and trends, conducting root cause analyses, and guiding prevention and risk‑avoidance opportunities.

Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations and accreditation requirements.

Conducting regular audits, inspections, and assessments to maintain a safe, functional, and compliant environment of care.

Finance essential functions:

Ensuring departmental budgets align with the strategic plan and corporate guidelines.

Maximizing efficiency and productivity through vendor and partner relationships.

Providing oversight of operational expenses, maintenance, and long‑range infrastructure improvement projects.

Growth/Innovation essential functions:

Developing long‑range goals and strategic plans, deploying data and research to drive prioritization.

Implementing innovative solutions for practice or workflow changes to improve operations.

Leading sustainability and energy‑efficiency programs, reducing environmental footprint and operating cost.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Facilities Management, Business Administration, or related field.

Master's degree in business management or related field preferred.

Work Experience

Ten years of directly related experience, including leading high‑performing teams; seven years in a people management role.

Current HM employees with six years of people management experience in healthcare may be considered.
