Responsibilities
Supervises customer service associates and designated hitters; manages front end of the store and provides recommendations on Pharmacy and Retail Store operations.
Supports Store Manager with overall operation; works an alternate schedule with the Store Manager; assumes full store responsibilities in the Manager’s absence; ensures proper merchandising, protects store assets, and improves store sales and profitability.
Leads and manages store team members, including recruitment, hiring, performance management, and discipline to engage teams and achieve company deliverables.
Customer Experience
Engages customers and patients by greeting them, offering assistance, resolving complaints in a timely manner, and answering questions to ensure a positive experience.
Models and shares customer service best practices; monitors service, provides coaching, training, and develops improvement plans for both front‑end and pharmacy.
Accountable for improving overall customer service metrics.
Operations
Supervises store operation and team members: assigns daily activities, delegates tasks, opens/closes shifts, approves time records, manages scheduling conflicts to ensure coverage.
Collaborates with external partners to drive the future of Walgreens stores; supports Pharmacy Operations Manager in community outreach opportunities.
Supports Store Manager with data analysis and decision making; follows up and monitors impact.
Controls cash management and bookkeeping: register counts, withdrawals, armored car pickups, safe deposits, change orders.
Supervises inventory updates, resets/revisions, and price changes; analyzes trends to create corrective action plans; trains staff on inventory SOPs.
Executes operational feedback from Store Manager and District Manager through delegation and supervision.
Ensures store interior and exterior cleanliness, manages repair and maintenance, and responds to emergencies.
Ensures team knows all computer and technology systems and software.
Ensures safety and well‑being of team members and utilizes the Security Operations Center.
Complies with all company policies, local, state, and federal laws, including sale of alcohol, tobacco, fresh food, and pharmacy products.
Completes special assignments as assigned.
Full Store Operation Business Performance Management
Analyzes financial and performance data; creates action plans to support business deliverables.
Uses operating statements, KPIs, and other tools to engage the team; drives solutions and actions for store improvement; collaborates with Store Manager to identify sales opportunities and growth initiatives.
Supports Pharmacy during busy periods, including serving as a pharmacy technician when necessary.
People & Performance Management
Leads and trains team members; provides coaching, mentoring, and performance support; manages discipline and termination when appropriate.
Manages performance by assigning responsibilities, developing plans, setting goals, observing performance, providing feedback, and giving recognition.
Acquires and retains talent; builds pipelines, anticipates staffing needs, manages candidate pool, participates in interview process, makes hiring decisions.
Ensures proper procedures for selection, recruitment, record retention, and training per company policy and local laws.
Establishes a culture of accountability through clear expectations, performance improvement plans, and constructive discipline.
Training & Personal Development
Successfully completes Store Manager learning and development program; fulfills all required learning, certification, and training assigned by Store Manager, District Manager, and company leaders.
Monitors own performance, seeks continuous feedback, commits to self‑development; maintains an Individual Development Plan.
Obtains and maintains a valid pharmacy technician license as required by state.
Communications
Communicates regularly with team members through one‑on‑one discussions and group meetings; actively responds to questions or concerns.
Assists Store Manager in planning and communicating company and store strategy.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree with solid academic record (all majors welcome) OR completion of Walgreens Community Internship Program OR High School Diploma/GED with two years supervisory experience (direct reports not required).
Demonstrated leadership, professional business ethics, self‑motivation, strong communication, and business acumen.
Completion of Store Manager training program (LEAP) or willingness to complete Walgreens Leadership Essentials training within 12 weeks of start date.
Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including extended days, evenings, and weekends.
Willingness to accept promotion to a Store Manager position, which may require relocation.
Ability to transfer to other Walgreens retail assets within the same hiring area.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree.
Internal candidates: Management experience, including supervising others, managing, and assigning work; experience across front‑end and pharmacy.
External candidates: Business majors; prior retail or food industry experience.
