Position Overview The
General Manager – Manufacturing Operations
will lead Supersede’s new manufacturing facility in Elkhart, Indiana, overseeing all aspects of operations including production, engineering, facilities, human resources, and profit & loss (P&L) performance. This role requires a seasoned leader who can build a high-performing team, manage startup activities for extrusion and secondary operations, and establish systems that ensure safety, quality, and efficiency. The ideal candidate will have deep experience in
plastic extrusion, compounding, and manufacturing management , and possess the technical and leadership skills to drive operational excellence in a startup environment. The General Manager will spend the initial training period in Phoenix, Arizona, before taking full responsibility for the Elkhart site. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Operations Build and lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for all extrusion, pelletizing, grinding, sawing, and CNC routing operations. Develop, document, and train operators and engineers on standardized equipment procedures and best practices. Establish a strong culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement. Manage all day-to-day operations, ensuring production goals are met on time and within budget. Drive operational excellence using Lean Manufacturing and data-driven decision-making. Equipment & Process Management Specify, document, and issue
RFQs
for extrusion, pelletizing, grinding, sawing, and CNC routing equipment. Lead supplier selection, negotiation, procurement, and project management for all new equipment. Oversee installation, commissioning, and startup of production systems. Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems as needed. Lead continuous improvement initiatives to improve throughput, efficiency, and uptime. Financial & Business Leadership Own full
Profit and Loss (P&L)
responsibility for the Elkhart facility. Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and performance metrics. Analyze cost structures and implement strategies to improve profitability. Partner with the executive team to align production capacity with market demand and company strategy. Human Resources & Community Relations Oversee all HR functions including recruiting, onboarding, performance management, and employee relations. Foster positive working relationships with employees, including those from the local
Amish community , understanding cultural and work-style considerations. Ensure compliance with all employment laws and safety regulations. Develop training and retention programs to build a skilled and motivated workforce. Facilities & Maintenance Lead facilities management, including preventive maintenance, safety, and environmental compliance. Ensure facility readiness and reliability to support 24/7 operations. Systems & Reporting Utilize
ERP systems
for production scheduling, inventory control, and performance tracking. Maintain documentation for process control, equipment maintenance, and production standards. Use
CAD tools
to review equipment layouts, production tooling, and process designs. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in
Industrial Engineering
or
Mechanical Engineering
required. Minimum
10 years of experience
in manufacturing management, with at least 5 years in plastics extrusion or compounding. Proven track record in
plant startup, equipment procurement, and process development. Strong leadership and team-building skills, capable of hiring, developing, and retaining top talent. Hands‑on technical experience with extrusion, hydraulic, and electrical systems. Proficiency in
CAD software
(SolidWorks or AutoCAD preferred). Experience managing
P&L
and driving operational performance. Familiarity with
ERP systems , production scheduling, and manufacturing data management. Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Proven success recruiting, training, and leading employees from a range of cultural backgrounds, including traditional and community-oriented groups prevalent in the Elkhart area. Willingness to travel up to
