Job Title General Manager – Masterbatch Color and Additive Compounding CONFIDENTIAL

Job Summary The General Manager (GM) will lead all aspects of the business operations for our Masterbatch Color and Additive Compounding operation. The GM will oversee strategy, sales, production, R&D, and customer relationships to ensure business growth, operational efficiency, and profitability. This role requires a deep understanding of the masterbatch and plastics industry, strong leadership abilities, and a commitment to driving innovation in color and additive solutions. The GM will work closely with cross-functional teams and report directly to the President.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership:

Develop and execute the overall business strategy for the masterbatch and additive compounding operation, aligning with the company’s growth objectives.

Identify and capitalize on new market opportunities and emerging trends in the plastics industry.

Set and manage financial budgets, revenue targets, and operational goals to ensure profitability and long-term sustainability.

Drive innovation by identifying R&D opportunities to enhance product offerings and stay ahead of competitors.

2. Operations and Production Management:

Oversee production processes to ensure efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and adherence to quality standards.

Ensure the plant operates in compliance with industry regulations, health and safety standards, and environmental policies.

Work closely with production managers to optimize manufacturing schedules, reduce downtime, and maintain high product quality.

Continuously improve operations through Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process optimization strategies.

3. Sales and Business Development:

Lead the sales team to increase market share and revenue by identifying and securing new clients in key sectors such as packaging, automotive, consumer goods, and industrial applications.

Foster relationships with key clients, negotiate contracts, and provide strategic direction for major sales initiatives.

Collaborate with marketing teams to enhance brand positioning, product promotion, and customer engagement strategies.

Monitor industry trends and competitor activities to adjust business strategies accordingly.

4. Financial Management:

Manage the P&L for the operation, ensuring financial targets are met or exceeded.

Prepare and present regular financial and operational reports to the executive team, highlighting key business metrics, performance, and growth strategies.

Identify cost-saving initiatives while maintaining product quality and customer satisfaction.

Work with finance teams to set accurate forecasts and budgets for production, sales, and R&D.

5. Research and Development:

Collaborate with R&D teams to develop new and innovative masterbatch and additive products that meet customer demands.

Ensure R&D efforts align with market needs and regulatory requirements for different industries (e.g., packaging, automotive, healthcare).

Support innovation in color and additive formulations to drive product differentiation and maintain competitive advantage.

6. Team Leadership and Development:

Lead, mentor, and develop cross-functional teams, including sales, production, R&D, and quality assurance, fostering a collaborative and results-driven culture.

Develop key talent within the organization and ensure that staffing, training, and employee development initiatives align with company goals.

Ensure clear communication and alignment across departments to drive business success.

Promote a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and safety throughout the organization.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Business Administration, or a related field is required.

Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) or a related field is preferred.

Experience:

10+ years of experience in the plastic masterbatch and additive compounding industry, with at least 5 years in a senior management or leadership role.

Strong technical understanding of masterbatch production processes, including extrusion, compounding, and color matching.

Demonstrated experience in managing large-scale manufacturing operations and multi-functional teams.

Proven track record in driving business growth and achieving operational efficiencies.

Technical Skills:

In-depth knowledge of polymer science, masterbatch formulations, and additive technologies.

Strong understanding of production technologies and quality control processes in the plastics industry.

Familiarity with extrusion, compounding, and quality control processes in masterbatch production.

Familiarity with regulatory standards (e.g., REACH, FDA, ISO) and industry-specific certifications.

Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process optimization methods is a plus.

Leadership & Management Skills:

Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to inspire and manage teams across departments.

Strong strategic thinking and decision-making capabilities.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with clients, vendors, and internal teams.

Location This position is based in Texas, with regular travel to client sites and industry events.

Salary & Benefits

Base pay range: $160,000–$170,000 per year.
