Staff Legal Managing Attorney – Zurich Insurance, Boston, MA / Rocky Hill, CT
Overview Zurich North America seeks an experienced Managing Attorney to lead the Boston and Hartford (Rocky Hill CT) Staff Legal offices. The role reports to a Regional Managing Attorney and oversees attorneys representing commercial insureds across Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.
Responsibilities
Lead and coach a team of attorneys handling liability and workers’ compensation matters.
Manage a moderate to high exposure caseload and prepare and try cases from a diverse portfolio.
Provide coaching and feedback on complex matters and high‑exposure litigation.
Collaborate with corporate, regulatory, and regional partners to support commercial insurance carriers.
Qualifications
Juris Doctor with 10+ years litigation experience, including significant first‑chair jury trial experience.
Member in good standing of Massachusetts and/or Connecticut Bar.
Experience with Lexis, insurance industry, claims, and defense litigation.
Strong knowledge of law and procedure.
Preferred
Prior management experience with demonstrated leadership and courage.
Familiarity with defending personal injury and workers’ compensation claims arising from general liability, auto, and construction.
Strong litigation experience and ability to develop and mentor others on trial advocacy.
Strong change‑management and communication skills with a strategic, forward‑focused mindset.
Ability to manage a staff of 10 attorneys and 3 paralegals in a hybrid model across two offices.
Effective problem‑solving, analytical, and multi‑tasking capabilities.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary range: $190,000.00 – $250,000.00 with a 20% short‑term incentive bonus.
Hybrid work model: 3 days/week in office (Boston or Rocky Hill) and 2 days/week remote.
