Managing Attorney – Boston, MA / Rocky Hill, CT

Job Overview Zurich is seeking a Managing Attorney to oversee our Boston, MA and Hartford (Rocky Hill, CT) Staff Legal offices. The selected candidate will report to a Regional Managing Attorney and manage attorneys who handle Liability and Workers Compensation matters on behalf of Zurich’s insureds across Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. The Managing Attorney will not have a personal caseload but will lead the team responsible for preparing and litigating moderate to high exposure cases for our commercial insureds.

This position is hybrid: 3 days per week in the office and 2 days working remotely. The Managing Attorney may base themselves in either Boston or Rocky Hill with monthly travel required to the second office.

Responsibilities The Managing Attorney will:

Provide coaching and feedback on complex matters and high‑exposure cases.

Lead and mentor a team of 10 attorneys and 3 paralegals across two offices.

Support staff attorneys in trial preparation, case strategy, and jury trial execution.

Maintain a strong client relationship with Zurich’s commercial insureds.

Basic Qualifications

Juris Doctor and 10 or more years of litigation experience, including significant first chair jury trial experience.

Member in good standing in the Massachusetts and/or Connecticut State Bar.

Experience working with Lexis.

Knowledge of the insurance industry, claims, and the insurance defense litigation legal environment.

Knowledge of law and procedure.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior management experience with demonstrated leadership courage.

Familiarity with the defense of personal injury and worker’s compensation claims arising from general liability, auto, and construction.

Extensive knowledge of law and procedure.

Strong litigation experience and capabilities, including developing and mentoring trial advocacy.

Strong change‑management and communication skills.

Strategic, forward‑focused mindset.

Embraces simplification and innovative opportunities with an emphasis on continuous improvement.

Effective collaboration, consensus building, and influence.

Ability to manage a staff of attorneys and paralegals working in a hybrid model across two offices.

Experience working in a team‑based environment.

Effective problem solving and analytical skills.

Compensation The proposed salary range for this position is $190,000.00 - $250,000.00, with short‑term incentive eligibility of 20%. If your expectations exceed the listed range, we still encourage you to apply—your unique background matters to us.
