As we scale from research and development to full-scale manufacturing, we are seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer to join our Hands Team. This role is ideal for an inventive engineer who thrives on designing groundbreaking systems from a blank sheet of paper and driving them through to scalable production. You will play a critical role in shaping the dexterity, precision, and durability of robotic hands, enabling our robots to perform advanced real-world tasks. Responsibilities

Transform napkin sketches into manufacturable parts after asking clarifying questions. Communicate effectively with suppliers to gather necessary information. Dimension bearings and other mechanical components to meet specifications. Design parts suitable for casting or molding processes. Iterate designs based on team feedback and experimental data. Develop innovative mechanical designs for robotic hands focusing on high precision, strength, and durability. Lead the design process from concept to mass production, including prototyping and testing. Invent mechanisms, actuators, and packaging solutions balancing compactness and functionality. Conduct analyses such as FEA to validate designs and ensure reliability. Collaborate with electrical, software, and manufacturing teams for seamless integration. Optimize designs for cost, scalability, and ease of assembly without compromising performance. Drive rapid prototyping to test and validate ideas. Stay updated with emerging technologies and materials to innovate continuously. Approach challenges with a positive, can-do attitude grounded in physics principles. Understand force flow in mechanical structures. Fix and machine parts when necessary, demonstrating hands-on skills. Experience in designing and developing mechanical systems from concept to production, ideally in robotics or related fields. Strong expertise in mechanisms, actuators, and structural design, with a history of invention and innovation. Proficiency in CAD (e.g., SolidWorks) and analysis tools. Ability to transition designs to scalable manufacturing, supporting supply chain and ramp-up processes. Hands-on experience with machining, 3D printing, and rapid prototyping. Exceptional problem-solving skills with a first-principles approach. Effective communication and collaboration skills within multidisciplinary teams. Nice to have
