Job Description The HVAC Technician is responsible for operating and maintaining all HVACR equipment and systems, as well as other environmental systems, including building mechanical and electrical repairs.

Responsibilities

Install, troubleshoot, and repair heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration units, including chillers, boilers, and heat pumps.

Troubleshoot malfunctioning heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems to determine the cause of issues.

Perform scheduled maintenance inspections, and adjust, clean, and calibrate various systems to ensure proper operation.

Repair wiring and electronic components associated with automated building management systems.

Replace components such as expansion valves, compressors, motors, and coil units.

Clean refrigerant systems, evacuate, and charge systems as needed.

Troubleshoot and repair digital and pneumatic control systems.

Check distribution systems for proper velocity, volume, temperature, and pressure.

Balance air and water treatment systems.

Identify and correct condensation problems.

Assist in the design, installation, and modification of HVAC systems.

Train other technicians and staff in preventative maintenance.

Prepare records and reports on procedures, actions, and solutions.

Request supplies and equipment as needed.

Respond to emergency service requests.

Work independently or as part of a team.

Supervise work of other technicians if required.

Ensure compliance with safety rules, regulations, and procedures.

Follow safety protocols to prevent hazards and injuries.

Be available 24/7/365 for assignments.

Wear respiratory protection if required.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities May supervise an assigned work crew.

Qualifications Education and Experience High school diploma or GED with at least five years of progressively responsible experience working with complex HVAC systems, including chillers, boilers, package units, VAV systems, and control systems.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

Minimum of five years of building HVACR experience at the Journeyman level in government or commercial facilities.

Current DC HVACR license and CFC universal certification.

Valid Driver’s License.

Ability to obtain security clearance, pass criminal background checks, and pre-employment drug screening.
