Position Overview
HDR is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join our North Carolina structural team in Raleigh or Charlotte. This role involves the structural design of facilities across various markets including Water/Wastewater, Municipal, Industrial, Power, Federal, Healthcare, and Education and Science. Prior experience in all these markets is not mandatory. The candidate will coordinate closely with a multidisciplinary design team throughout project phases—from planning through construction documents and administration. Responsibilities include developing construction drawings, specifications, engineering calculations, and reviewing shop drawings during construction. Experience in structural design and detailing of building projects is required, with a preference for experience in environmental engineering structures, such as reinforced concrete tanks using the ACI 350 code.
Preferred Qualifications
MS or MSCE Degree in Structural Engineering preferred Experience leading teams on structural design projects Strong knowledge of structural modeling software like STAAD or other 3D analysis tools Experience with environmental engineering projects (water/wastewater) desired Experience with condition assessment and concrete repair preferred Local candidates are preferred
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering Minimum of 10 years of structural engineering experience related to building design Professional Engineer (PE) license Proficiency with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, RAM, ETABS, SAFE, or similar software Experience in design calculations and layouts Ability to design and detail in steel, concrete, masonry, and wood Understanding of gravity and lateral analysis Experience with architectural/engineering or consulting firms Active participation in our employee-owned culture is essential
