In Kansas City, Honeywell Federal Manufacturing & Technologies (FM&T) manages and operates the U.S. Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration’s (NNSA) Kansas City National Security Campus. This state‑of‑the‑art engineering, manufacturing and sourcing facility produces a wide array of intricate components to deliver trusted national security products and government services primarily for the NNSA. Summary The Sr Data Scientist leads highly complex problem analysis, customer interaction, solution design, front‑end and back‑end integration, maintenance, and support of data science and analytics solutions for manufacturing or business applications. This position is part of the Data Science and Analytics team responsible for a variety of complex, high level operations to support applications utilizing big data. Individual will lead complex data science projects that require skill in a diverse array of data science applications and play a key role in shaping system architecture to ensure application stability and scalability. A successful candidate will have a strong foundation in big data platforms, machine learning, and development processes.

Duties and Responsibilities

Lead and support moderate to highly complex data science projects in support of process improvement, defect reduction, and predictive analytics for manufacturing and business applications.

Independently develop data science models or algorithms using disciplined software development processes, making recommendations for developing new code or re‑using existing code, implementing version control and maintaining documentation of created applications.

Integrate sustainable business improvements for AI/ML using Hadoop Big Data environment.

Interface with multiple stakeholders and team members to improve predictability of business or manufacturing operations.

Collaborate with internal web application development team accessible throughout KCNSC to incorporate established models into stakeholder daily decision‑making processes.

Work directly with customers and business partners to develop requirements, and provide technical solutions through an analysis of manufacturing/business needs and pain points.

Define and implement ingestion, data preparation, curation, and governance of large, multi‑faced data sets supporting analytics models and workflows.

Stay current with relevant emerging technology to make recommendations on investment opportunities.

Demonstrate project management skills, serving as project lead.

Guide and produce information products, supporting visualization and data accessibility in a customer‑centric manner.

You Must Have

At least five years relevant experience in data science or related technical activities.

BS in engineering from an ABET accredited institution or Bachelor of Science degree in data science or related field, or two additional years of relevant experience.

Ability to travel as determined by the needs of the business.

Ability to work remote, hybrid, or on‑site as directed by management, determined by needs of the business.

Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job.

United States Citizenship.

Ability to obtain and maintain, if required for position, a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance (some positions require additional DOE designations).

Experience producing analytics data visualizations, preferably using Tableau, MicroStrategy, or equivalent.

Demonstrated experience working with Hadoop, Hive, Apache Spark, etc. Demonstrated experience with machine learning, neural networks, and deep learning.
