Research Laboratory Supervisor

Full-time, Staff, Pay Grade A10. Location: UHealth campus, Miami, FL.
The department of Medicine, division of Infectious Diseases, has an exciting opportunity for a full‑time Supervisor, Research Laboratory to work on the UHealth campus. The Supervisor oversees clinical data and complex research protocols, coordinates clinic and research activities, and takes initiative in the design, implementation, and coordination of research studies.
Core Job Functions
Keeps all laboratory equipment in good working order and makes minor repairs.
Oversees and collaborates in the development of study tools.
Evaluates the availability of resources for research studies and the impact of studies on resources.
Develops, implements, and maintains standard operating procedures.
Reviews numerous laboratory results and enters abnormal results into database.
Coordinates trainings and monitors performance of procedures.
Assists in determining fiscal requirements and in preparing budgetary recommendations.
Prepares reports setting forth progress, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendations.
Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.
Ensures employees are trained on controls and University policy and procedures.
Department Specific Functions
Work with ID Research Unit Principal Investigator and Project Directors on ongoing project needs for active multisite & single‑site research studies to meet deliverable deadlines.
Assist Clinical Manager in tracking and disclosure of laboratory/clinical results to research participants.
Supervise collection, processing, storage, tracking, and shipment of biological specimens (e.g., blood, swabs, saliva).
Ensure proper labeling and chain‑of‑custody documentation for clinical samples.
Review research laboratory test orders with internal/external laboratories.
Coordinate lab tasks of research studies, including sample logistics, data reporting, data entry of clinical results, and results documentation.
Supervise teams of phlebotomists responsible for collecting blood samples and performing basic tests and laboratory procedures.
Develop and train research teams on updated SOPs and MOOs.
Participate in the review, revision, and implementation of standard operating procedures.
Communicate and disseminate general information and policy or procedure changes to personnel.
Manage procurement and inventory of clinical supplies.
Coordinate maintenance of clinical and laboratory equipment as needed.
Conduct clinical assessments and research visits, if needed, as outlined in research protocols.

Core Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes

Ability to establish department goals and objectives that support the strategic plan.
Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.
Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.
