Essential Functions / Responsibilities

Perform hyperbaric chamber operator duties, including patient preparation, education, and orientation.

Prepare, educate, and orient patients about Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy.

Administer hyperbaric oxygen therapy as prescribed, monitoring equipment performance and patient responses.

Record data for daily treatments and wound clinic visits, maintaining accurate patient records.

Operate and maintain hyperbaric chambers and support oxygen systems.

Participate in safety programs and conduct safety drills.

Responsible for hyperbaric equipment and supplies, ensuring safe operation and maintenance.

Evaluate equipment and supplies for safety compliance before chamber entry.

Remove or restrict hazardous items.

Coordinate with Program Director and Healogics to approve upgrades, modifications, and repairs.

Collaborate with facility management, medical personnel, and senior management to develop policies, revise procedures, and maintain operation documents.

Lead hyperbaric safety program initiatives.

Maintain a safe environment using approved decompression procedures.

Review incidents, document safety events, and provide in‑service training.

Conduct quarterly safety drills.

Inform personnel of hazard conditions and comply with NFPA 99.

Participate in safety or environment of care committees.

Assist as Documentation Assistant (scribe) if CMA or LPN.

Perform other duties as required.

Required Education, Experience and Credentials

High School Diploma or GED.

Current Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT) or Certified Hyperbaric Specialist (CHS) certification preferred.

Completion of an approved Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO) Safety course within 5 years of hire.

Completion of an approved hyperbaric Medicine Introductory course (from U.S. Navy, National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology, Department of Defense, or American College of Hyperbaric Medicine).

Current state‑licensed healthcare professional certification (e.g., RRT, EMT, RN, LPN, LVN, CNA, CHS, CHRN, CMA, RMA, CHWS, PT, PTA) maintained throughout employment.

State Variations

In Ohio: required Ohio license as RN, LPN/LVN, RRT, or certified hyperbaric technologist (CHT).

Requirement for Introductory Hyperbaric Training Course approved by the National Board, Department of Defense, or American College of Hyperbaric Medicine.

Preferred: 2+ years’ experience in healthcare, wound or critical care, supervisory experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Current BLS/CPR certification, maintained throughout employment.

Ability to troubleshoot hyperbaric equipment and systems.

Attention to detail and ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment.

Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

Basic math, organization, time‑management, and problem‑solving skills.

Customer service and follow‑up skills; ability to calm and relax patients.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Physical Demands

Extended stationary periods (4+ hours).

Frequent computer use (≥4 hours).

Movement, lifting up to 75 lbs with assistance, pushing/pulling, bending/stooping.

Communication, vision, reach, and auditory detection capabilities.

Work Environment

Primarily indoor patient‑care setting.

Exposure to bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, explosive gases, mechanical equipment, moving objects, and electrical current.
