Reporting & Responsibilities

Operates the hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber(s) and related support systems, ensuring safe and effective delivery of therapy.

Prepares, educates and orients patients about therapy, lifts or transfers patients per policy, answers questions.

Administers therapy as prescribed, monitors equipment performance, monitors patient responses during sessions, adjusts to maintain safety.

Making appropriate data entries for daily treatments and wound care clinic visits, maintaining complete patient records.

Maintains and operates the hyperbaric chamber(s) and other support oxygen systems as required.

Participates in the safety program, conducts safety drills.

Equipment & Safety

Responsible for all hyperbaric equipment/supply, ensuring safe operation and maintenance of chamber(s) and related systems.

Evaluates equipment and supply to meet safety requirements before permitting inside chamber(s).

Restricts or removes potentially hazardous items.

Collaborates with Program Director and Healogics to coordinate and approve upgrades, modifications, and repairs, ensuring compliance with safety standards.

Collaboration & Leadership

Works closely with facility management and department medical personnel to ensure day‑to‑day operations.

Develops, annually revises department policies and procedures, operation and maintenance documents with senior management.

Leads hyperbaric safety program activities, maintains safe environment, uses approved decompression procedures.

Reviews all department safety incidents, collects information, reports incidents, periodically provides in‑service training, conducts quarterly safety drills.

Informs personnel of special work conditions such as infection prevention, hazard control.

Assists Medical Director in reviewing and documenting safety‑related events.

Maintains compliance with NFPA 99 (Health Care Facilities Code) and updates departmental safety policies.

Serves on hospital safety or environment of care committee as appropriate.

Documentation & Other Duties

If CMA or LPN, may function as Documentation Assistant (scribe) per Healogics policy.

Performs other duties as required.

Required Education, Experience & Credentials

High School Diploma or GED.

Current Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT) or Certified Hyperbaric Specialist (CHS) certification preferred.

Completion of approved Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO) Safety course within 5 years of hire.

Completion of approved hyperbaric Medicine Introductory course.

Current healthcare professional certification or license applicable in state of practice (examples: Respiratory Therapist, RN, LPN, EMT, RN, Certified Hyperbaric Specialist, etc.).

State Variations (Ohio)

Current Ohio license as RN, LPN/LVN, Respiratory Therapist or Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT) approved by NBDHMT.

Completion of Introductory Hyperbaric Training Course approved by NBDHMT, DoD, American College of Hyperbaric Medicine or Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society.

Two or more years’ healthcare experience preferred.

Prior wound or critical care experience preferred.

Prior supervisory experience preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification.

Hyperbaric equipment and related systems troubleshooting skills.

Attention to detail, ability to multi‑task, work in fast‑paced environment.

Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

Basic math, organization, time‑management, problem‑solving skills.

Customer service and follow‑up skills, ability to calm patients.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Physical Demands

Stationary position 4+ hours.

Keying on computer 4+ hours.

Moving about, lifting/moving up to 75 pounds with assistance, pushing/pulling, bending/stooping.

Communicating, vision and hearing required, reaching/grasping/touching, detecting sounds.

Work Environment

Primarily indoor patient care environment.

Exposure to hazards (blood‑borne pathogens, toxic chemicals, flammable explosive gases, etc.).

Exposure to mechanical equipment, moving objects, electrical current.

The hourly rate for this position generally ranges between $28.26–$37.39 per hour.
