Sr. Manager, Manufacturing Engineering - Onsite, Austin, TX Varian Medical Systems, a Siemens Healthineers company, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Manufacturing Engineering Manager to lead our world‑class manufacturing strategy onsite in Austin, Texas. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in machine building, automation, robotics, and the development of world‑class manufacturing production cells and high‑performing teams. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership capabilities, financial acumen, and the ability to drive innovation and scale operations in regulated industries.

Responsibilities

Lead the design, development, and implementation of advanced manufacturing systems including automation, robotics, and machine building.

Coach and develop an internal build team while also leveraging outside suppliers.

Establish and optimize medium‐volume production cells in compliance with industry regulations.

Champion the use of vision systems for automated inspection and testing.

Drive innovation in manufacturing processes to enhance efficiency, quality, and scalability.

Manage and mentor a team of engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

Develop and execute strategic projects to support rapid business growth, collaborating with stakeholders and team members.

Oversee financial planning and budgeting for manufacturing engineering initiatives.

Apply statistical thinking and quality control methodologies to ensure product and process excellence.

Collaborate cross‑functionally to align manufacturing strategies with business objectives, including heavy functional partnership with R&D.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.

Proven track record in regulated industries with low to medium‑volume production.

Proficient in financial planning and project management.

Hands‑on experience with machine shop operations and core machine build techniques.

Expertise in vision systems and automated inspection technologies.

Proficient in understanding engineering requirements in a regulated industry.

Ability to lead cross‑functional teams and manage complex projects with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Experience with lean manufacturing, statistical process control, and design for manufacturability practices.

Familiarity with CAD/CAM software and PLC programming.

Minimum of 10 years of experience in manufacturing engineering.

Minimum of 5 years focused on machine building, automation, and robotics.

Minimum of 3 years building and developing teams.

Preferred Skills

Experience with FDA Medical Device Industry.

Knowledge of FDA regulations such as ISO13485.

Pay Range Min $151,100 – Max $226,640
