Job Description Per Diem Registered Nurse

The staff nurse contributes to the development, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for the assigned patients in the department. Under the direction and leadership of the Nurse Manager, the staff nurse is guided by a thorough knowledge of nursing theory, principles, and standards of quality care, with the ability to coordinate patients' medical care as top priorities. The nurse is responsible for the safe and efficient dispensing of Methadone and Buprenorphine medication to patients in compliance with FDA, DEA regulations, and departmental policies and procedures. The nurse is responsible for collecting urine specimens in accordance with regulatory and departmental policy. The nurse assists physicians, PAs, and/or NPs in evaluating and addressing the medical needs of the patient, including assisting with physicals, following up with all medical orders and referrals, taking vitals, placing PPDs, administering immunizations, completing bloodwork as needed, preparing and administering EKGs, and scheduling appointments for annual physicals, medication orders, laboratory orders, follow-ups, etc. The nurse is responsible for documenting all care provided accurately and completely according to Hospital and Department policy. The nurse functions as a role model/preceptor for orientees, as assigned, and may also perform other related duties as assigned. Requirements:

At least one (1) year experience working as an RN in a substance abuse treatment setting Experience working with individuals diagnosed with mental illness and/or substance abuse disorders required Additional language fluency is preferred Computer literacy required Current Registration in New York State as an RN BCLS/CPR certification Working Conditions:

Hours are varied as dictated by staffing and programmatic needs, and weekend coverage is required. May be required to work under stressful conditions with possible exposure to uncooperative patients who may at times be abusive, loud, and/or assaultive, as well as having communicative and/or terminal diseases. Physical Demands:

Sitting and standing for long periods of time, bending, lifting, and pushing may be required; mobility within the department is expected. Extended periods working with computers and extensive writing. Pay:
