Job Description & Requirements Director of Acute Hospital Coding
Start Date: ASAP
Pay Rate: $175,000 - $200,000
The Position
The Director of Acute Hospital Coding will provide vision and strategic goals related to coding and billing for Nuvance Healthcare System, under the direction of the Vice President of Revenue Integrity. Ensuring coding practices meet quality and regulatory standards, and comply with all payer regulations.
Oversee approximately 70+ FTEs, including four direct reports, and collaborate with CDI and physician teams to ensure accuracy and timeliness in inpatient, outpatient, ED, and ancillary coding, supporting revenue cycle initiatives in compliance with CMS and third-party payers.
Lead departmental initiatives including cost analyses, denials management, workflow improvements, and automation opportunities. Drive process improvements by analyzing metrics to eliminate redundancies and enhance operational efficiency.
Ideal candidates will be experienced leaders with deep expertise in acute hospital coding and billing, strong mentoring skills, and excellent relationship-building abilities. Analytical and problem-solving skills are essential.
Maintain positive relationships with physician and CDI teams and foster cross-departmental collaboration to ensure operational efficiency.
Seeking a forward-thinking leader willing to innovate and create collaborative partnerships to improve accountability, employee development, productivity, engagement, and operational efficiencies.
Experience with Cerner, 3M 360, and DRG systems preferred.
This role offers hybrid work flexibility.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred.
CCS certification required.
Experience in acute hospital coding required.
At least 7 years of coding experience required.
Minimum 3 years of leadership experience required.
Compensation Details
Base salary: $175,000 - $200,000 annually, with potential benefits including health insurance, retirement, and bonuses. Total compensation will be determined based on experience, education, and other factors.
