Job Summary The Facility Manager is responsible for overseeing the day‑to‑day operations of assigned buildings, ensuring safety, compliance, and efficiency in facility operations, vendor coordination, and maintenance services. This role proactively identifies, tracks, and resolves facility‑related issues to minimize disruptions to research, academic, and operational functions.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate and manage building operations, including maintenance, custodial services, and work orders.
Manage small‑scale facility modifications and vendor services.
Support facility data collection, sustainability initiatives, and process improvements.
Assist in tracking space utilization, infrastructure assessments, and strategic planning.
Ensure all facility needs are met efficiently as the primary liaison between building occupants, Facilities Operations, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), Physical Facilities, and external vendors.
Deliver reliable service that keeps Purdue’s buildings and infrastructure operating smoothly.
Drive transformative change by adopting innovative practices and modernizing facility‑management processes.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Facility Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
A minimum of one (1) year of experience in facility operations and IFMA Facility Management Professional (FMP) certification, or ability to obtain certification within 12 months of hire.
Associate’s degree with three (3) or more years of progressive experience in facility operations or management.
Equivalent combination of education and experience that provides necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
IFMA Facility Management Professional (FMP) certification.
Experience in higher education or research facility management.
OSHA 10 or equivalent safety certification.
Skills
Understanding of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire safety, and building automation systems.
Knowledge of OSHA, EH&S, ADA, and fire safety standards.
Ability to engage with faculty, staff, leadership, and external vendors to resolve facility concerns.
Decision‑making skills in emergency situations.
Ability to prioritize and coordinate maintenance tasks, repairs, and custodial services.
Experience managing key/fob access, surveillance systems, security protocols, using Maximo or SAP to manage work orders, tracking space utilization and energy efficiency.
Good communication: tenant updates, service notifications, small‑scale renovations, furniture installations.
Analytical skills: data analysis, recommendations for improvements, basic project scopes, timelines, budget estimates, safety inspections, vendor negotiations, blueprint interpretation.
