Body and plastics paint controls engineers are responsible for sustaining, improving, and designing automated manufacturing equipment for the production line in body and plastics paint. They collaborate with maintenance and equipment engineers to maintain existing automated equipment, troubleshoot any type of controls and process issues. Ideal candidates need to have strong PLC, robots and SCADA design experience.

What You'll Do

Program and debug structure text and ladder logic code on multiple PLC controller platforms like Rockwell and Siemens, whether for new equipment or legacy systems.

Program and debug robot logic on Fanuc and Kuka robots.

Develop and maintain SCADA applications on Ignition 7.9 and 8.1, including working with screens, views, tags, types and integrating with databases and APIs.

Propose and execute solutions with cross‑functional teams such as quality, process, production and maintenance to improve safety, quality and production metrics.

Work with different types of VFDs and servo controllers and help migrate to newer or non‑legacy equipment.

Improve PLC logic, query databases and write Python scripts to keep the shop as efficient as possible.

Collaborate with the process team on updating the paint process, working with ovens, RTOs, air houses, booths and conveyance systems.

Conduct risk assessment and work on safety buy‑offs.

What You'll Bring

Degree in Mechatronic or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.

3+ years of professional controls engineering experience.

Proficient in Rockwell and Siemens PLCs, legacy and new equipment (Simatic Step 7, TIA portal, Logix Designer and RS Logix 5).

Proficient in SCADA design using Ignition 7.9 and 8+, creating new screens, views, tags, data types, database connections and Python scripting.

SQL, Oracle and Python intermediate experience, primarily applied to Ignition and query optimization.

Proficient with all types of VFDs and servo controllers, especially SEW, Siemens and Rockwell.

Strong electrical experience to read and modify electrical schematics and troubleshoot shorts and electrical issues.

Knowledge of communication protocols such as Ethernet, ProfiNet, DeviceNet, Modbus, DH+.

Experience with vision sensors like Cognex and Keyence, vision systems and 3D cameras is a plus.

Position requires rotating between day and night shift.

Compensation $96,000 – $168,000 per year + cash and stock awards + benefits. Pay offered may vary depending on location, job‑related knowledge, skills and experience. The total compensation package may include additional elements dependent on the position offered.
