VP, Digital and Programmatic (Retail Focus)
As a leader within dentsu, the VP will lead key client relationships while growing a team responsible for delivering excellence in retail media, ensuring exceptional campaign execution and performance. The VP will ensure high‑quality work through strategic oversight, while balancing best practices, a focus on digital innovation, and operational efficiency. Also, you will help define dentsu Media's holistic commerce and retail media vision and strategy and help create our vision for the future of retail more broadly.
The VP will deliver thought leadership to enhance dentsu's reputation as a digital and retail leader and will implement training initiatives to drive a culture of continuous improvement.
As a key member of the leadership team, you will collaborate with senior management to manage resources across selected clients, drive organic growth by identifying upsell and cross‑sell opportunities, and assist management with future‑proofing the dentsu business by providing feedback on market trends, needs, product development or other opportunities. You will report to the EVP, Global Strategy & Investment.
Main Accountabilities
Programmatic Leadership: Oversee client relationships, campaign execution, and independently manage/lead multiple teams.
Cross-Channel Strategy: Implement digital and programmatic strategies proactively to the portfolio and ensure collaboration with search, social, and commerce teams.
Retail Media Integration:
Develop and execute retail media strategies across major networks (Amazon Ads, Walmart Connect, Target Roundel, Criteo, Best Buy Ads)
Align retail media with programmatic and broader digital initiatives to create unified, data-driven campaigns.
Leverage retailer data and first-party insights for advanced targeting and personalization.
Client Engagement: Drive strategy for client engagements and provide oversight to ensure high-quality work.
Growth & Innovation: Identify upsell and cross-sell opportunities for organic growth, including retail media solutions.
Strategic Planning: Engage with clients and Client Center leadership to assess account health and set goals for improvement and growth.
Operational Excellence: Ensure adherence to client contracts/SOWs & Retail JBPs, develop staffing plans, and prioritize profitability.
Thought Leadership: Participate in panels, fireside chats, and other public speaking opportunities; routinely contribute to new business pitches.
Education & Enablement: Foster awareness of dentsu tools and retail media products among the broader team.
Risk Management: Ensure the team follows defined processes for campaign management and enforce risk‑mitigation controls for hands‑on‑keys activation work.
Culture & Development: Drive a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or 12+ years' experience within programmatic, retail media and digital industry.
Experienced leader with proven history of leading highly successful teams.
Deep knowledge of Retail Media ecosystems including Amazon, Walmart, Criteo, Best Buy, and emerging platforms.
Detailed knowledge of Retail KPIs and how to determine the impact of media activation on brand revenue and sell-in.
Experience across all digital media channels and ability to speak to each eloquently.
History of developing positive, ongoing client relationships with a focus on client service.
Experience managing complexity across multiple groups, clients, and interagency partners.Ability to see “the big picture” and drive organizational and client success.
Exceptional project management skills.
Collaborative mindset.
Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
Proficient in programmatic technology, platform, and partner solutions, including DSPs, ad servers, verification platforms, planning/financial tools, DMPs, analytics dashboards.
Strong experience with business applications.
Salary Range The annual salary range for this position is $113,000 – $182,850. Placement within the salary range is based on a variety of factors, including relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and other factors permitted by law.
