Job Overview
The Restaurant Server provides an exceptional dining experience to guests by providing courteous and efficient service. The Server is responsible for taking orders, serving food and beverages, and creating a welcoming and enjoyable environment.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Greeting and Seating: Welcome guests upon arrival, escort them to tables, provide menus, and accommodate special requests.
- Order Taking: Listen attentively to guests’ orders, note special instructions, and accurately input orders into the restaurant’s system.
- Food and Beverage Service: Serve food and drinks promptly, ensure proper presentation, and verify orders match requests.
- Product Knowledge: Know the menu, ingredients, preparation methods, and specials; offer recommendations.
- Upselling: Suggest appetizers, sides, desserts, and beverages to enhance the dining experience and increase sales.
- Table Maintenance: Keep tables clean, reset them efficiently for new guests, and clear empty dishes.
- Customer Interaction: Engage with guests in a friendly manner, address concerns, provide solutions, and ensure satisfaction.
- Payment Processing: Present bills, handle payment transactions accurately, and process credit card transactions.
- Teamwork: Collaborate with kitchen staff, bussers, and other servers for smooth coordination.
- Sanitation and Hygiene: Follow food safety standards, maintain cleanliness in the dining area, and practice proper hygiene.
- Special Events: Assist with parties and catering functions as required.
Skills and Abilities
High school education or related experience. Alcohol‑awareness certification and familiarity with hospitality industry practices preferred. Ability to provide friendly guest service and comply with ordering, food‑handling, and state/local service guidelines. Process guest checks and collect payments in compliance with company policies.
Working Conditions & Physical Effort
Physical work is a primary part of many hotel and resort jobs, including extended standing, walking, climbing, bending, reaching, pulling, pushing, kneeling, and lifting to 50 lbs. Work may involve exposure to extreme temperatures, chemicals, dirt, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and loud noises. Safety precautions and protective equipment usage are required.
