Job Summary Battelle's Advanced Mission Solutions Business Line is seeking a Program Manager in the Systems Development, Modernization, and Prototyping Division (SDMP) at NSWC CRANE, Indiana. This position leads a critical R&D initiative focused on advancing energy solutions for defense applications, managing projects aimed at extending component lifecycle, integrating state‑of‑the‑art technology, and enhancing power and energy systems for various military platforms including missiles, shipboard, and aircraft systems.

This position is contingent on program award.

Responsibilities

Project Management: Oversee planning, implementation, and tracking of specific short‑term and long‑term projects related to energy solutions for defense applications.

Team Leadership: Lead a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and technical staff to achieve project goals; ensure effective collaboration and communication within the team and with external stakeholders.

R&D Oversight: Manage the research and development process, including assessment of technology gaps, development of advanced energy storage and integration solutions, and enhancement of capabilities to address emerging threats.

Lifecycle Management: Conduct quick‑reaction analyses and comprehensive engineering analyses for total lifecycle management of energy systems, from conceptualization through deployment and operational support.

Technology Assessment: Evaluate critical enabling technologies for suitability within defense systems; guide research and analysis efforts to identify and integrate innovative solutions.

Stakeholder Engagement: Act as primary point of contact for all project stakeholders, including government agencies, subcontractors, and project sponsors; ensure alignment with project objectives and timelines.

Budget and Resource Allocation: Develop and manage project budget; allocate resources effectively to meet milestones within budgetary constraints.

Reporting and Documentation: Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations for senior management and government officials; document all phases of the project lifecycle and ensure compliance with industry standards and government regulations.

Key Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, or a related field; advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) preferred.

Minimum of 10 years of experience in program management, specifically in R&D projects related to power generation, battery & energy systems, microelectronics, renewable energy, or related fields; recent experience managing DoD contracts & projects.

Strong leadership and team management skills; excellent project management skills; proven track record of managing complex R&D projects.

Strong understanding of energy systems, including energy storage, power generation, and system integration.

Familiarity with DoD critical technology areas such as microelectronics, space technology, renewable energy, directed energy, and hypersonics.

Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; proficiency in project management software and tools.

PM Certification or DAU Level II/III Program Management qualification.

Proven ability to integrate a wide variety of technical disciplines into a solution to meet client requirements; excellent business acumen.

Demonstrated success ensuring that a wide range of technical, business development, and administrative activities are done on time and at a high quality.

Excellent oral, presentation, and written communication skills; demonstrated excellence in building and supporting a team.

Capable of traveling domestically up to 10% annually.

Sole US Citizen with a current DoD Secret clearance and ability to obtain TS/SCI.

Preferred Qualifications

15+ years leading teams in the execution of programs and/or development of power generation, battery development and battery management systems, energy storage & management systems in an operational environment.

Recent experience with battery testing and certification under Naval Sea Systems Command Instruction 9310.1C.

Experience working on DoD projects with NSWC Crane’s Special Warfare & Expeditionary Systems Power and Energy Division (JXM).
