Sr. Energy Storage Network Engineer - Renewables
Location:
FULL-TIME REMOTE (Anywhere in the USA) This is an opportunity to join an industry-leading renewable energy venture with strong private equity backing focused on developing, executing, and operating utility-scale energy storage projects. They are at the forefront of the industry, having accumulated over 9GW of projects in a short period, and are currently expanding, including adding a Sr. Network Engineer to the Asset Management Team. This is a critical role that will shape the Asset Management strategy in Operational Technology (OT), Network Engineering, Telecommunication Systems, and Automated Control Systems across the portfolio. It involves hands-on development of network and communication control system architecture for innovative renewable energy projects involving battery storage, integrated with a proprietary data-driven decision platform. Responsibilities:
Serve as an SME for network management, control center design, telecommunication engineering, and OT. Own control systems architecture, integrations, algorithms, network models, and conceptual designs per ISO/RTO standards. Design and configure LANs and WANs, including hardware like firewalls, routers, switches, and wireless tech. Lead installation and integration of fiber optics, Ethernet, servers, and related hardware/software to secure control networks. Manage OT network performance, monitoring, troubleshooting, and oversee third-party contractors. Assess grid-tied inverter hardware/software solutions, including plant commissioning and construction. Drive cybersecurity, system recovery, backup, and audit processes across assets. Communicate with stakeholders, including developers, regulators, ISOs, and internal teams. Qualifications:
Bachelor's in Engineering or related, focusing on Electrical, Power Control Systems, Network Engineering, Telecommunications, IC&E, or Automation. Experience in OT network commissioning, site reviews, and project execution. Ability to provide technical assessments of inverter hardware/software solutions. Experience defining telecommunication operational scopes, conceptual design, and technical requirements. Proficiency with network performance diagnostics and tools like Wireshark and NMAP. Knowledge of network security measures, including firewalls (Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco). Understanding communication protocols: Modbus, DNP3, TCP/IP. Strong cybersecurity knowledge aligned with NERC/CIP and NIST standards. Ability to design and maintain complex LAN/WAN systems. Expertise in TCP/IP services, firewall management, IP routing, VLANs, and fiber optics. Preferably familiar with OT software/hardware (e.g., Ignition, PLC, RTU).
