Position Overview
Tenure‑track assistant professor of African American, African Diaspora and/or African Studies at UC Davis. Start July 1, 2026.
Salary range: $109,300 to $130,600 inclusive of salary scale and off‑scale components.

Position Description
We seek a scholar with an innovative publication profile or strong promise of scholarly productivity, and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates should possess a promise of or commitment to departmental/university collaboration as appropriate to rank. Record of publication preferred.
Our department is multidisciplinary with strengths in humanities, cultural studies, and social sciences. Faculty can seek affiliation with graduate groups within the College.
Responsibilities
Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in African American, African Diaspora and/or African Studies.
Produce scholarly research in chosen fields (e.g., Agriculture and Environment, Science and Technology Studies, Legal Studies) and publish in high‑impact venues.
Collaborate with department and broader units on teaching, research, and service initiatives.
Engage with African American, African Diasporic, or African community organizations and movements as appropriate.
Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a relevant field.
Demonstrated record of intellectual distinction and interdisciplinary expertise in African American, African Diaspora and/or African studies appropriate to rank.
Record of research area fit to fields of interest listed.
Excellence in teaching and commitment to curricular development in African American, African Diaspora and/or African Studies.
Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
Productivity appropriate to the rank of the applicant will be expected.
Expertise that complements existing department strengths and goals of the African American and African Studies Department at UC Davis.
Preferred qualifications (other preferred)
Energetic commitment to, and interest in, collaborating with other academic programs; e.g., social sciences, humanities and cultural studies.
