Job Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program, a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Mission & Organization The Ralph H. Johnson Veterans Health Administration, located in historic downtown Charleston, SC, is a tertiary care teaching hospital providing compassionate whole health care to more than 85,000 veterans. It is the second fastest‑growing VA in the U.S., rated a 5‑Star medical center for quality and efficiency. It houses 152 beds, 20‑bed nursing home, women's health, and a full range of inpatient and outpatient services, including medical and surgical intensive care. The VAMC serves about 934,000 outpatient visits and 4,300 inpatient stays annually, with an annual budget of $525 million.
Responsibilities This is an open continuous announcement. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis and qualified candidates will be considered as vacancies become available. Applications will remain on file until September 30, 2025.
The Primary Care Physician Assistant will execute responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex patients under the supervision of a physician. The provider will work regularly, collaborating with Primary Care Providers, consultants, trainees, nurses, therapists, pharmacists, case managers, and other specialists to ensure compliance with all Primary Care best practices and performance measures. The provider will also help develop and support clinical initiatives that improve overall patient care and patient flow through the various levels of care. This position requires flexibility in schedule and assignments as deemed necessary. The provider must be articulate in communicating with people of varied educational levels and willing to work cooperatively as a member of a team. The provider will complete all mandatory and annual competency training for equipment, procedures, and protocols.
