About GOSO Getting Out and Staying Out (GOSO) envisions a world where neither a person’s race nor past involvement with the legal system determines their future. We partner with young people impacted by arrest or incarceration on their journey toward education, employment, and emotional well-being.

Our work begins in detention facilities—including Rikers Island and NYC youth centers—supporting individuals through education planning, workforce development, and emotional wellness programming. We also address immediate needs ranging from commissary support and clothing to communication with family and legal advocacy in collaboration with public defenders.

GOSO’s programs include Stand Against Violence East Harlem (SAVE), GOSOWorks, and multiple education initiatives such as Pathways-to-Graduation, a high school equivalency program. Throughout the pandemic, GOSO continued serving participants and expanded its operational capacity. We are now investing in our external relations and development functions to support continued organizational growth and deepen our impact in Harlem and beyond.
