Professor/Director, Cancer Control, Prevention and Epidemiology Program at TGH Cancer Institute
The University of South Florida invites applications for the position of Professor/Director, Cancer Control, Prevention, and Epidemiology Program at the TGH Cancer Institute. The role will involve teaching, scholarship, service, and directing interdisciplinary cancer research initiatives.
The incumbent will serve as a senior‑level faculty member in cancer epidemiology research, report to the Chair of the Department of Epidemiology, and collaborate with faculty across USF Health. The Director will provide day‑to‑day direction and will be expected to obtain extramural funding covering a minimum of 40% of base salary by the fourth year of employment.
Responsibilities
Instructional Duties: 20% FTE
– Teach graduate‑level courses in cancer epidemiology and/or epidemiologic methods (approximately three courses per year) and advise graduate students. Contribute to undergraduate teaching and research mentorship when expertise allows.
Research/Scholarship Duties: 70% FTE
– Direct the Cancer Control, Prevention, and Epidemiology Program; build and sustain an externally funded research program in cancer epidemiology (covering at least 40% salary support by year four); collaborate across departments; publish scholarly work; present at national and international conferences; mentor graduate students and faculty.
Service Duties: 10% FTE
– Participate in departmental, college, and university governance; serve on committees and professional organizations; mentor junior faculty; engage in community and public‑health service initiatives aligned with the department’s mission.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Doctoral degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization, demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service, recognized authority in the field, and meeting university criteria for appointment to the rank of Professor.
Additional Minimum Qualifications:
Two years of sustained accomplishment at the Associate Professor level in an accredited university or equivalent setting; national and/or international record of excellence in independent and/or collaborative research in cancer epidemiology; sustained extramural funding; excellence in teaching with a clear teaching philosophy; substantive service contributions; collegiality.
Preferred Qualifications:
Current extramural funded research providing a minimum of 40% salary support; leadership of strategic research initiatives; mentoring of junior faculty; leadership of multidisciplinary cancer research teams or institutional programs; collaborative partnerships with cancer centers, medical centers, or health systems; innovative teaching approaches; leadership in professional or scientific organizations; research program aligning with departmental strategic priorities.
