Overview of the Role Lockheed Martin Space seeks an experienced Systems Architect to design, develop, field, and operate space sensing and missile systems for national security mission partners. This key role supports major national security initiatives.
Responsibilities
Support National Security mission areas with long‑term planning, technology insertion, and architecture decisions.
Develop and communicate missile and space sensing architectural futures.
Assess and convert mission needs/requirements into overall mission system solutions, considering design and technology maturity constraints.
Create innovative next‑gen mission systems and system element architecture, design, and interface definitions.
Translate architecture analysis into action plans and product development roadmaps.
Manage budgets, schedules, and performance standards.
Collaborate with Enterprise Centers of Excellence, Supply Chain, and LOB leadership to translate mission and product roadmaps into technology investments and industry partnership decisions.
Support internal and external mission system design reviews.
Develop multi‑domain solutions for sensing and missile missions and work seamlessly across Line of Business and Business Development.
Seek and foster knowledge of current and emerging technologies, design, and analysis methodologies.
Create models and architectural guidelines for current and future mission system development efforts.
Coordinate with Business Development and Government Affairs on customer environment, requirements, and architectures.
Build successful teams with internal stakeholders (Business Development, central Engineering) and external stakeholders (suppliers, mission partners, U.S. government laboratories).
Maintain required security clearance and U.S. citizenship.
Basic Qualifications
Experience performing as a Systems Architect on a space development program.
Experience in the design or analysis of RF communication, sensing, or missile systems.
Familiarity with design tools and environments for communications, sensing, and missile systems.
Familiarity with MBSE concepts.
Willingness and ability to obtain LM Systems Architect certification within 12 months of starting in this role.
Desired Skills
Active TS/SCI clearance.
Experience as a Systems Architect on large and complex DoD/IC space hardware development efforts.
Experience with missile and space‑based sensing systems.
Experience applying MBSE concepts in a Systems Engineer or Systems Architect role.
Current LM Systems Architect certification at Qualified level or higher.
Prior SAP access.
Security Clearance Statement Position requires a government security clearance; U.S. citizenship is mandatory. Clearance level: TS/SCI.
Pay Rate Annual base salary range (California, Massachusetts, New York (excluding major metro areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington, Washington DC): $139,600 – $246,100. Salary for other states reflects final work location.
