Moffatt & Nichol's dynamic Mechanical, Electrical and Instrumentation (MEI) team is growing! We are seeking an Electrical Engineer with 5 to 10 years of power distribution experience in our Long Beach or Costa Mesa office. Work on exciting projects that have statewide and nationwide impacts! We are a multi‑disciplinary team serving clients big to small. From the US Navy and the largest ports in North America to municipal marinas and departments of transportation, we provide the opportunity for learning new industries while refining your skills as an Electrical Engineer.

As the successful new hire, you will join a highly collaborative international team of Electrical Engineers. You will not only work on projects in the State of California but beyond! This diverse project experience will help grow your knowledge and expertise outside of your local region. You will work with team members locally and across the company. You will also work with team members from other disciplines to integrate your designs and complete highly technical projects.

Complete electrical designs to support firm‑wide projects by working with Project Managers (any discipline) and electrical teammates

Provide design calculations, design drawings, and project specifications for the following but not limited to:

Low voltage power distribution systems

Medium voltage power distribution systems

Grounding systems

Lighting systems

Lightning protection systems

Communications systems

Electrical equipment design (including switchboards and switchgear)

Selective coordination and arc flash studies

Lead the electrical designs of multidiscipline projects

Evaluate project scopes

Prepare detailed contract documents, studies and cost estimates

Perform construction administration activities such as submittal reviews and construction observations for electrical work on projects

Alone or with project staff, travel to site or meet with clients, sub‑consultants, utilities, and other parties to investigate site conditions and meet project requirements

Assist in company‑wide Quality Assurance and Quality Control process

Successfully communicate and interact with internal and external clients and team members

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering

Engineer in Training (EIT) certification required

Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in California strongly preferred

5 to 10 years of related experience

Experience working with Georgia Department of Transportation projects desired

Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) desired

Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit is required

Proficiency ETAP or EasyPower and AGI32 are preferred but not required

Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills, including ability to complete complex technical assignments and prepare and analyze technical reports

Valid driver's license in good standing

Ability to obtain a TWIC Port Pass or other U.S. Government‑issued badges with background checks

All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre‑employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800‑171

Base salary range $120,000 - $150,000 based on years of experience, level of education obtained, professional registration, and meeting required qualification in job description.

Base salary range only applicable for candidates who will be hired and working in the California market.

Working conditions Work is generally performed in an office or client office setting. Ability to use standard office equipment is required. At times, site visits may be required for meetings, client interactions and site assessments. Site work will take place in substations and electrical rooms. Some travel will be required.
