Job Summary The Vice President (VP) of Consumer Lending is responsible for the strategic direction, leadership, and performance of the credit union's consumer lending portfolio, including direct, indirect, and digital lending channels. This role ensures lending products, services, and policies align with organizational goals, regulatory requirements, and Member needs while driving growth, profitability, and risk mitigation. The VP of Consumer Lending serves as a key member of the lending leadership team, fostering a culture of accountability, service excellence, and innovation.

Duties / Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership Develop and execute the long‑term vision and strategy for consumer lending, ensuring alignment with the credit union's mission, growth goals, and Member service objectives.
Monitor market trends, Member needs, and competitor activities to identify opportunities for product innovation and portfolio growth.
Partner with the lending leadership and other executive leadership to shape lending policies, credit risk appetite, and strategic initiatives.
Business and Portfolio Management Oversee all consumer lending functions including auto, recreational vehicle, personal, and credit card.
Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for portfolio growth, loan quality, delinquency, profitability, charge‑offs, and Member satisfaction.
Conduct profitability and risk analysis across products, recommending changes to pricing, underwriting, and credit policies.
Ensure timely, accurate reporting to the lending leadership team, ALCO, senior management team, and Board of Directors.
Leadership & Talent Development Lead, coach, and develop consumer lending supervisors and staff to build a high‑performing, Member‑centric culture.
Assist in leading, coaching, and developing indirect lending supervisors and staff to help build a high‑performing indirect/dealer lending department.
Foster accountability and professional development through performance management, mentoring, and succession planning.
Collaborate with branch and digital delivery leaders to ensure consistent Member experience across all channels.
May assist and help in the development of loss‑mitigation department personnel, systems, and procedures.
Innovation & Member Experience Drive adoption of technology platforms (e.g., nCino, MeridianLink, digital e‑lending tools) to improve efficiency, speed, and Member satisfaction.
Champion cross‑functional collaboration with Marketing, Operations, and IT to develop and launch consumer lending campaigns and digital enhancements.
Ensure the credit union remains competitive through continuous evaluation of products, pricing, and delivery models. Research, develop, and implement new products as needed.
Required Skills / Abilities
Extensive experience in consumer lending, including loan origination, underwriting, portfolio management, and risk mitigation.
Strong leadership skills, with the ability to mentor and guide direct reports.
Deep understanding of regulatory requirements and compliance in consumer lending.
Experience leading projects and initiatives that drive both operational and organizational impact.
Proven track record in developing and executing lending strategies that drive growth, profitability, and compliance.
Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills with the ability to influence at the executive and board level.
Proven ability to collaborate across departments to achieve organizational goals.
Ability to drive business results through planning and operational excellence.
Proficient in loan software, financial analysis tools, and MS Office Suite.
Demonstrates excellent patience, tact, enthusiasm, and positive attitude towards staff, Members, and the general public.
High level of professionalism and dedication, with a commitment to delivering exemplary client service and maintaining positive community relations.
Education / Experience
Education or experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, or similar field, in addition to (7) plus years' of progressively responsible experience in lending.
Additionally, a minimum of (5) plus years of progressively responsible supervisory experience is required.
Travel – As required.
Those in a leadership role are expected to participate in company meetings, community events, and similar engagements as ambassadors to the organization and its mission. These include voluntary and involuntary events that, although ordinarily will be during business hours, do include weekends and evenings as announced.
