Dorsey's Patent group is seeking an associate in

Salt Lake City, Denver, Minneapolis, Seattle, or Boise

with two to seven years of experience and a technical background in mechanical engineering, materials science, physics or chemical engineering/chemistry. The role involves an active docket of patent prosecution matters, including drafting applications through all phases of domestic and foreign prosecution, counseling clients on patent strategy, and conducting searches and preparing patentability, invalidity, and non‑infringement opinions. Opportunities to support litigation and transactional practices also exist.

Qualifications

USPTO and Utah, Colorado, Minnesota, Washington, or Idaho bar admission

Two to seven years of patent attorney or agent experience

Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering/Chemistry or equivalent

Strong academic performance and writing ability

Portfolio management experience

Salary (Seattle only) The salary range for this position is $215,000 - $315,000, determined by depth of experience. The individual hired may elect a lower billable‑hours track with a proportional reduction in salary. Associates are eligible to participate in Dorsey's associate bonus program, subject to the program's conditions and restrictions.
