This is a highly responsible professional and supervisory position planning and managing activities of the Planning Division of Palm Tran. An employee in a position allocated to this class is responsible for planning, managing, or coordinating the development of mid- and long-range transportation plans, Federal and state grant development and applications, and capital improvements and associated budgets. The incumbent exercises considerable independent judgment and technical expertise in the development of effective recommendations for public transportation improvements. Supervision is exercised over a staff of professional subordinates assisting in various phases of the public transportation planning process. General direction is received from the Director of Transit Planning. Takes a lead role in the planning and design of Palm Tran’s transit service within Palm Beach County. This position is responsible for highly complex multi-project managerial work and provides direction and guidance regarding strategic operations and planning implementation related to the Transit Development Plan (TDP), corridor and facility studies, economic assessments, policy recommendations, multimodal plans, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), Transit-Oriented Development, local and regional plans, and mobility and accessibility analyses. The position maintains a high degree of contact with service board members, citizens, and other planning agencies in Palm Beach County to effectively communicate Palm Tran’s service needs and requirements in a broad public forum.
Bachelor’s Degree; graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in planning, transportation planning, or a closely related field; and five (5) years of progressively responsible professional and administrative experience in transportation /transit planning, including two (2) years of supervisory experience ; or any combination of related training and experience.
Master’s degree in Planning or a closely related field; Project Management Professional (PMP),American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification or Professional Transportation Planner (PTP); and experience in a public transit agency.
